Thanks for joining. Stay a while and contribute as much as you can. I'm a semi-newbie myself and I've learned a ton just by checking in everyday.

“When a competitor reaches the kind of dominance Google has, it’s almost impossible to catch them” Eh, didn't they say that about Lycos, Altavista, and Yahoo? Google is pretty sweet, but internet folk are decently fickle. Show them a bette

This article gives me the same feeling of when I watch movies with a horrible scientific plot (eg The Transformers). It's entertaining, but so off the mark. I guess writing about the Multilayer Perceptron, Support/Relevance Vector Machines

Yeah that was one of those quotes that someone else had sent to me and I remembered it when I read the OP. I did a search but couldn't come up with any sources. But the other part of the quote is this: "Success is not final, failure is not

Last year I built an application that aimed to integrate existing utility information. At first I just scrapped the info from a utility-login, but they weren't too happy about it. I eventually met with the IT department of our local utilit

I am always astounded by those who don't have very good "people skills." I guess I take mine for granted. As much I'd like to say that these tips should be common sense, I have begun to recognize that for many people, social skills need to

So right now I'm a PhD student and doing quite a bit of research for my proposal. Maybe I'm unique, but if I'm doing reading online, I don't exactly care about highlighting. If I come across something important, I just bookmark it. If it's

There's not, aside from the general misgiving I have about the black-box nature of .Net stuff. Sometimes I feel like I'm not really hacking. :)

Yes, your right. I've got enough experience with C#/.Net to really really appreciate VWD. But alas, cost. Also, porting Matlab scripts to .Net works quite well. If I can find something like VWD but for something like PHP instead, then I'd b

I love learning new languages. I'm trying to pick up (on average) one per a year. The problem is that I become knowledgeable about a bunch of languages but not really an expert in any of them! Granted, I know there are some underlying simi

Thanks for the tip. As per my comment below, is there an IDE similar to Visual Web Developer? This is what I'm most comfortable with and enjoy using.
