Yah I believe that. We don't have access to the Music Genome and we can still build a decent rec engine. When you have millions of users you can assemble pretty good features if you log the usage properly.

Right. I didn't say it wasn't possible to do these with relational databases. Typically you use Hadoop for when you want to take the processing "offline", like in doing data-mining of log data. For our company, our log data is hundreds o

Hadoop is amazing for when you need to run huge batch-processing jobs that would otherwise be too taxing to use on a relational database. I've been working a lot with Hive lately--Facebook's creation that lets you basically type SQL and the

I guess everyone has different definitions. 50 million users is a pretty tough benchmark to get to, especially in a little over a year. Hell, I'd be happy if there were 1000 happy customers for my apps. But damn if your bar is set on IPO, m

I think if you build a product that 50 million people love, or that 10 million people have downloaded, that would be considered to be a home run. If that isn't, what is?

I couldn't agree more. As a programmer, Labview is very frustrating. What takes me an hour to "setup" I could probably code in less than 15 minutes. And its damn slow. And its errors are impossible to troubleshoot. The only reason why I
