You can always listen to the investor calls for the capitalist point of view. In short, attracting talent, building the ecosystem, and making it really easy for users to make stuff they want to share on Meta's social networks

I don't know how the EU expects Meta to make any money. It's pretty infuriating

Why not buy an copy and put it on your to-read shelf for the next couple of months?

If that’s the case, then what happens next and on what timeline?

Facebook doesn’t really use vanilla mercurial but its own scale-oriented rust fork. It’s open sourced as “sapling”

For the company there’s no opt-anything, its internal tools, of course we need metrics, and presumably you have nothing to hide with your work :) I’ve become a lot more tolerant of telemetry since starting to work there, because I see the u

There’s a good chance they do. Big tech contributes a ton to open source, I can’t imagine that’ll be different with unreal.

Meta, where they run a PHP monolith with mysql? ;)

I work on dev tools at my company. Telemetry really helps a ton to figure out if you're prioritizing the right things and if changes that you made are really for the better

Vegan for 20 years: I check my blood every other year or so and there hasn’t been an issue. I take a multivitamin, like everybody should, but maybe that counts as “properly supplementing”? AFAIK the only vitamin that’s easily deficient in a

Vegan is certainly harder but still completely feasible, especially after the initial learning period. I’ve been vegan for 20 years and it’s only ever really annoying when travelling abroad.

That’s just some guy that asserts stuff though. I mean, so am I to you, but fwiw I’ve never seen or heard of any non-hack PHP in the current codebase

Meta does not sell personal data, they just use it for ads

I suppose, but you’d be limited to a small number of supported languages, whereas bazel works for just about anything. Like my sibling commenter noted, you only need it if you really need it.

That’ll be because Facebook doesn’t use PHP as such, but Hack, which isn’t compatible with vanilla PHP. Hack isn’t really used much outside of Meta, so what’s the point of going through the extra work of open sourcing our stuff if nobody el

I admit I’ve only ever used Hack, not vanilla PHP, but that one is a pleasure to use. I’m sure the vast majority of my colleagues will agree with that too

You’re just describing a job, and I really, honestly don’t see how getting shown targeted ads is such a privacy violation. Meta doesn’t sell the data, nobody looks at that data on an individual level, it’s just used to show you the most rel

I had a quick look and.. I have no idea. Frontend development at meta works differently than you probably imagine: things aren’t built locally but on dev servers or on-demand instances that all run services that take care of any build jobs
