My formerly active duty Marine Corps, pessimistic self considered that to be a very possible reality. I thought about what I would do if I were him and I immediately went to the 'well shit, how do I make this[1] into a story that paint

Oh man! I was thinking about the whole legal language should be something of a formal language a little less than a year ago. I'm glad someone is doing something along those lines.

When I was in the military, I reread the book that convinced me to pick the Marine Corps, Starship Troopers. When I reread it after having been active for a couple years, I realized how off it was from my experience[0] and thought it odd to

As an embedded engineer, you and parent have put into words something that I've known but haven't been able to articulate. I think I encountered the sentiment (on HN) before that because CPU and memory speeds have become so far ou

I'm wondering how munificent feels about Squirrel[1]. It seems like Wren is looking to fill the same niche that Squirrel fits. So I guess my question is, how are they different, or, how is Wren better? [1] - http://squirrel-

Well, close to being post-1.0. I think it is Rust 1.0 (alpha) in January (the 9th) then (beta) 6 weeks later.

Incidentally, it was this comment thread that led me to find this[1] for the same reason you list. The lack of collapsible threads has bugged me for a bit and I have been considering doing my own bookmarklet for a while but never got around

My wife, a surgical technician, hasn't done surgeries like this before but has mentioned how for other procedures (on the face, perhaps) that they fold back the skin and then 'flop it back on'. It is crazy when she talks abou

This is what I did. I bought a Brother monochrome laser printer (HD-53??) back in 2012 for use printing out college junk. If memory serves, I was on the starter cartridge for a year or so, In fact, I may still be on the starter cartridge. I

Oh, if only more of my fellow countrymen could get a worldly experience before they settle down. Many people in my hometown hardly go but an hour or two away except on a vacation. I remember how I had a culture class before my first deploym

Granted. I suppose my point is that ARM is going towards the same inbetween-ism that x86 has moved to.

Since ARM11 (ARMv6), cores have been running on Thumb 2 (16-bit instructions) and only jumping into regular 32-bit instructions when necessary. Before that there was the Thumb instruction set which according to [0] was introduced in 1994. T

I always wondered why I can't stand the sound of people eating with an open mouth ('smacking their lips') or a dog licking themselves/chewing on a rawhide. For some reason, closed mouth eating and a dog biting themselves

The STM32F429 Discovery board [1] has 2MB of Flash and 256KB of internal RAM. It also looks like it has 64 Mb of SDRAM which might be what your looking for. We have an engineer where I work who is trying to get mRuby up and running on one.

Perhaps you should make one? I've seen comments across HN that go into more embedded-y stuff, i.e. people remarking on ARM based systems, etc. I'm also an embedded guy and browse HN quite often.
