Can you actually buy unpasteurized milk in NL (except from the farm directly)? I thought there was some sort of EU rule against that.

10 years ago or so the story was the opposite: economic progress will lead to a rising middle class, which will lead to more political freedoms.

I have seen this reference before, but if you look at Figure 5, it does not seem to agree with the statement that 0 is the only safe amount. Am I missing something?

I guess you are talking about the second law of thermodynamics? Even humans don't violate that, the have to get the energy for generating information from somewhere, and that increases entropy.

Since perceiving art is highly subjective, couldn't it be subject to the same kind of placebo-like effect that makes a more expensive wine taste subjectively better than a chemically identical cheaper wine?

Fwiw, I had the opposite experience when coming to the us as a high school exchange student from Germany. I did well in school, and got much more derision for this in Germany than in the US. Could possibly have something to do with me being

One (admittedly theoretical) way to get companies to reveal the cost is to tax them based on the self-declared value of the data. The lower value they declare, the less taxes they pay, but the cheaper they have to give it away. One could do

I just did some back of the envelope math and I believe dissolving all of the atmospheric co2 into the oceans would lead to a concentration of about 2g/m^3. Not sure what the effect of that on pH would be, but sure sounds like it woul

Important to note that 'historically' here probably refers to the 4 or 5 decades following the second world war, which may well turn out to have been a historical anomaly in the grand scheme of things.

I wonder what Thomas Pickety would say about this. If I understand correctly, this would mean that r is tending towards zero, while g may or may not be affected, but it could conceivably lead to a long term r<g situation, meaning more eq

Seconded. I really believe there are no shortcuts to doing lots of problems. If you can afford it, getting a physics grad student to discuss problems that stumped you every now and then might also have quite good ROI, talking to physicists
