Dimension reduction and clustering have long been the focus of AI/ML. Reference, Bishops book an early 2000's classic, Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning, chapter 9.1 is k-means clustering.

Neat video of Clark photographing them for Nat. Geographic. He slowly and interactively builds the lighting scheme as he goes along. https://youtu.be/vCxJ8-Rpv4o?t=350

There is also algorithm/database based IP that is unique and worthy of separate purchase.

How can you say that ease of implementation is overlooked in academia, when academia created the exact tools your are speaking of?

Also note that current "leader board" standard on MNIST is 99.8, not 99% he compares against. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MNIST_database

There are lots of reasons, principally among them that Kaggle comps problems represent only one tiny fraction of ML problems. On general purpose ML, with out much time rigging a optimal solution, RF/Xgboost will preform better. But in

Fantastic. The rate of internal raises over the years at a company is something I've not seen a lot of statistics on. Your responses was exactly the claritrty I was looking for! Thanks!

Do you know when the paperwork is filed? ie are the listed H1b salaries based on first day of work at the company, or pay after multiple years? I'm trying to figure out if this is the money the company used to get the talent or if its

Do you know if this is the amount of money for the first day of the contract? ie. First day of work at Google or if this could be reflective of working at Google for several years with raises? I'm not clear when the paper work is fil

We know that the term journalist implies that mutual exclusivity. Accredited individual behaving badly will loose their accreditation very very quickly. This concern of blending activists and professional journalists is something the jour

That is not how the news business is practiced. The assumption is that journalists are not participants and therefore are not prosecuted as such. Similar to a security guard standing near a protest.

How do you know the journalists were cheering?

This is significant because in order to collect the story, journalists have to stand next to people doing illegal things. Since the journalist wouldn't be there otherwise, and is not a participant, if they are mistakenly charged, then

Sure, I can see that coming from your perspective. Matlab can do things that are similar, a researcher creates a model that is totally detached from the production environment, works beautifully and leaves ALOT of engineering required of t

I'd like to know more about end-to-end systems in R. I'm not familiar with serious production environments using such tools. Any pointers?

I don't know any research statisticians that produce code for excel. R is THE place to see their most recent advances. And sadly despite the algo's being ported to python, sometimes R still has the "best" implementatio

I am always amazed when I work in R, how some ideas are just effortless, and you can ignored the syntax and just think about the concept. I really enjoy that.

Doesn't seem like a huge debate for me. R is written in a way that encourages thinking like a statistician. Python environment enables simpler ways to "productionalize" your code and makes it easier to "think like an e
