Norton Commander was insanely awesome. Borland C++ was really cool (even back then, I favored C++ over Pascal :D).

I interviewed at FB London about 6-7 years ago, and they also gave me whiteboard interviews. They're one of the stupidest things ever invented. If you want to master it, I guess you need to buy a whiteboard, and have a programmer frien

I do know a bit about poker. Your site looks really cool - if you can actually provide what you're saying, that's pretty awesome! There's probably a bug in your site -> "Fedor Lorem..." - it says ">1kk&q

1. talk to your family, let them know 2. think about what you'd like to learn - be specific 3. look for jobs in that area, and explain from the get-go that you'd like to learn-on-the-job (explain your expertise), and tell them tha

I would not ask for a raise right now. How I would phrase this is is more like : "I do believe I'm worth more, and assuming everything goes well, in the long term, I would like to be payed more/get part of the business".

If you can do the ML, do it. As long as you can enjoy work, not worrying about finances, I would take that any day. Good luck!

i never said to be dishonest - maybe I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was this "You specify from the get-go you want to hire the guy, but he'll start on a 3-6 month trial basis. If all goes well, you'll continue and g

Personally, I think it's not ethical. Also, I don't think a fake landing page will actually validate an idea -- true validation takes time and interaction with customers, something that fake landing pages won't offer.

I have 2 dogs and work with them in the room all the time. They can be distracting, but to me, this is mostly in a good way. I do understand that they can be slightly annoying at times, but I couldn't live without them. I do understand

You can never be sure. If you do know coding (and I mean, are in the "senior-to-expert" category), there's a chance you'll be able to get a feel of what a guy can do by asking a lot of questions and by looking at public

Glad to help! Yeah, about that service - as I said, once you know exactly what you want, they're awesome. For sure, doing everything yourself is not the way to go -- there's simply too much to do :)

I agree with winkelwagen. You should do development, and also, take advantage in that you're a junior, to learn as much as possible. Read as much as you can, and apply it. And tackle harder and harder tasks, but definitely start from e

It's interesting that your idea already has traction. To me, this seems overly complicated. And what I mean by that, is that the user needs to hold the whole concept in his mind. And while this works wonders for very simple scenarios,

Dealing with bugs in other APIs. This is such a sad truth of today's software - you are dependent on other libraries, and as you use them, you encounter bugs - and quite a few, I may add. And even sadder, Microsoft ('s APIs) is no

I'm well into the second 1000 weeks (22 years of programming). I don't think there are any decent timeline hacks - just do something, see if it works, and if not, roughly after 6 months I suggest you stop, and take a 6-12 months b

It's literally a non issue. Once you start development, you'll run into so many issues, that you'll simply forget about it. Building the right team is very very hard, finding investors is very hard, finding users is very hard

My take is that you're thinking like a web dev, and not like a desktop dev. Why would you want to use 2 languages? If you use a single language, testing/debugging is waaaay easier. There may be some places where you'd be incl

I'm not familiar with Tk, and how well that works, but there are a lot of things a good GUI should do -- just think of databinding and such - it's very far from trivial to develop something that looks really good on all platforms,
