Or they hire 3-4 new people, which gives them the man power to make sure 8-12 other people never get over-time, or knock a few of them down to part-time to strip them of benefits.

RF isn't the commons they're talking about. The commons is the open access points that people would come by and torrent / download kiddie porn through. People abused open access points, so everyone started closing them.

Perhaps he's referring to the expected elasticity of Bitcoin, but you're right, comparing anything to the dollar is perfectly valid, but making comparisons and liquidating assets are two different things.

Yes, so the collector would definitely need to be creating value-added through the curation process, through the preface, index, which articles are selected, how they're ordered, etc.

My Mechatronics professor took PRIDE in the fact that he hadn't changed the coursework in 20 years, meaning we spent a lot of time talking about how to program an 8051 in Intel BASIC.

Only 5,000 pages? I have books that are over 2,600 pages that don't even break 2.5" (eg Machinery's Handbook). Even using standard 20lb printer paper, my calculations don't have it breaking a foot. They must have used something like card

He is a brat, but touches a problem I've been trying to grapple with for some time now. I'm almost done with college, but throughout, I've been surprised how little respect college students give their professors. At the same time, I can't

Really? Just from my head shot? I think the best you could do was "Damn bro, you need a hair cut, and I hate your brand new glasses" But being rude wasn't even the point though, was it? This is really just blogspam...

http://kennethfinnegan.blogspot.com/ Text ads, top banner and bottom of right bar. $300 a year; as a college student, yeah, that's worth it.

I was surprised that just putting an adsense unit on the side of my personal blog (4k hits/month) manages to generate $25/month. It's a highly technical blog, mainly documenting my personal electronics projects, but covers pretty much anyth

Best description I've seen yet. Granted, I'm impressed with how much momentum they seem to have already collected, so I feel like their implementation is sound, but still tin-foily. They are working on a real problem though. Paypal kind o

Agreed. I missed it. You'd probably have to wait something like 8 years for a long-term solution. With American ADD, wouldn't count on it actually happening.

What he's saying is gently slow one down, then six months later gently slow down another. Then there will always be two opposing sats. Only reason I can think of is that there is either other experiments on-board that they need to recover

When I hit HN I got almost $40 from 10,000 hits, but that was mostly because I accidentally had the link back to the homepage right above an ad unit.

Hehe. We broke down and bought a Verizon Femtocell, so we will get all of the wonderful "IN" network effect of people switching back to Verizon, but will always have our own bandwidth to call from.

Nothing makes me more angry than people who do not know how to use Excel. We had a lab where we got 1,300 data points from a stress-strain failure and had to derive the material properties from such. PEOPLE DID IT BY HAND! MORE THAN ONE T

It's a cost to the taxpayer for a tactile service to the economy. Paving our roads was an enormous cost to the tax payers, but that doesn't bother anyone. Whats the difference between having roads to drive on, and having physical money to

It does have a stereo 1/8th inch jack on it, and neither set of speakers is really any good for music, so if you really care about audio quality, I would use external speakers. Stereo doesn't do that much when the speakers are 4" apart.
