I'd be very interested in some research backing up (2). Not because I don't believe you (actually I very much do). More that I'm curious and want to find out more about this phenomena.

The other point worth making is one from the article -- people have varying levels of tolerance and recovery ability. A comment which bounces off one person may well cause serious damage to another.

The problem with OVH is their appallingly bad rep for hosting "troublesome" content... In practical terms that means you can send emails but there's a 70% chance they'll land in the other party's spam bin.

If they begin to offer payroll services directly to some of the affected companies, I imagine the shareholders would be quite happy. They might be out the money until the insurance pays up, but ongoing fees and goodwill could well cover tha

I've seen this in a 50-person volunteer group. The devs turned up every year with a proposal to throw away and completely rewrite what they'd done the previous year. No incremental upgrades -- a complete rewrite every time. This w

And provide a big stick to whack the unfortunate employee. "You ticked box AX-two-alpha-seven. Do you know what that means? And you didn't complete the P12a checklist. That's gross misconduct. You're fired."

It's not just software -- manufacturing sees a new "methodology" every other year. Sometimes two or three in one year.

Maybe the tyranny of the fiefdoms will drive us back towards HTTPS. Certainly I've heard the question "why don't we do an iOS app and an Android app?" in respect of conference schedules. Usually after people saw the Goog

From my experience with bug bounties, if it's not on the OWASP TOP10, they'll kick, stamp, scream and fight -- even if you say "I don't want the bounty, I just want this bug fixed". (backstory: found a bug in Twitte

I actually tried to get Phabricator up and running not long ago -- the main issue I have with it is that it seems to need a server (at least a database server) all to itself. It's probably a resolvable issue using some kind of containe

At the last place I worked -- and at a volunteer-run event I'm involved with -- we use DokuWiki. The most difficult problem is getting people to use the damn thing, whatever you choose. WYSIWYG editing might help for less-experienced u

I've noticed a lot of people mentioning Taiga in the comments, and it looks like it's got everything we'd need. I'll have a dig and see if there's a Docker script to run up a test/eval installation. I might hav

I absolutely love Youtrack from a feature perspective but it still has the same dealbreaker problem as JIRA -- it's Java-based and needs a fair amount of CPU/RAM resources. Sadly that's one of the big reasons we're movin

I absolutely love Github Issues, and if I could get the budget I'd get us a Teams subscription and run with it. The problem is that the main projects I work on are for non-profit volunteer groups, so anything without a direct attendee

I agree with you. A better solution would be to use CI to check the branches (so you know what state you're in) and enforce a test and style pass before a branch can be merged to master. I don't know why there's such a fear o

This was years ago, when Git was relatively new (around the time Mercurial was at v0.8-0.9). Our "Git expert" was the one who blew away a month of work.
