If you weren't at KubeCon in March I outlined that we were going to try and do most of the things on this list. Very nice to get them done! Really looking forward to Kubernetes v1.3, it will be a solid release. https://www.y

It does this thanks to a technology called DAX and the fact that systemd boots really fast. https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/dax.txt

150ms to boot the VM that is running the container processes with the stripped down Linux Kernel, lkvm, and DAX. This is about what we observe in the rkt Clear Containers "stage1": https://coreos.com/blog/rkt-

Yes, that is the idea. Torus block is like EBS. Torus "library" could be used by other applications like an append only log, object store, etc.

It isn't a POSIX filesystem API. It is like a single file or a big distributed tape.

We haven't gotten that far down the path. We would love the help. I believe there are some issues related to documenting the architecture and failure domains for the v0.1.1 release: https://github.com/coreos/torus&

The project doesn't provide a POSIX filesystem directly. But, instead provides a block device (think AWS EBS). The initial goals that are in this release: 1. An abstraction for replicated storage between machines in a cluster. 2. A blo

A few major things we wanted to accomplish: Backed by etcd. Today etcd is a well tested and widely used consistent store with users like Kubernetes, Flannel (now Canal), Fleet, SkyDNS and many others. Building something like etcd requires t

The CoreOS team is excited to make this initial release and start collaborating with folks that want to tackle distributed storage. tl;dr this is a new OSS distributed storage project that is written in Go and backed by etcd for consistency

Yes, this is a similar concept. A pod (1 or more containers) is wrapped in a VM. I believe Hyper uses Xen and rkt uses lkvm.

This isn't correct. rkt does a VM per pod.

The OCI Runtime spec is still a work in progress. Docker and HyperV are implementing parts of the current pre-release versions of the OCI Runtime spec. You can use OCI Runtime bundles with rkt if you use the oci2aci[1] tool and rkt will be

The idea is to integrate LXD into OpenStack as a "lightweight VM". So, LXD runs a system with a full init system and executes them inside of a Linux Container. Another term for this is a "system container". Kubernetes is
