I think this is the same ethical questions of veganism and our use/abuse of biological systems. This is an excerpt from "The Pig that Wants to be Eaten" by Julian Baggini > After forty years of vegetarianism, Max Berger wa

What point are you trying to illuminate with this comment? A 22 caliber is safer than a 40 caliber. But, I still wouldn’t a hole made in me from either.

Sure, _a book_ might be sustainable in this system but the average book likely is just shipped around a ton and never used in this system.

I will have to check my shelves but I can’t think of a book I read recently that didn’t say printed in China. Although most of my book purchases have been kids books or textbooks. Maybe that is the reason.

Sort of on topic but I wonder about the CO2e or energy cost of books. My friend recently opened a book store and the supply chain seems crazy: - Make paper somewhere - Ship paper to China - Print the book in China - Ship the book back acros

Would love to hook this up to Zaparoo. I have really enjoyed using Zaparoo + Jellyfin to avoid menu diving when watching movies and shows.

Sure, lots of apps have this issue but I assumed it would work since they advertise the feature: https://obsidian.md/help/sync/collaborate

Does joplin cloud have a merge algorithm for multi-user edits or does it just punt and do conflict files?

I love Obsidian, have written a popular plugin, and my wife and I use it for TODO lists and various planning. However, every few weeks the official Obsidian sync makes an absolute mess of our shopping list (which has fairly frequent edits a

Gah! mini usb instead of USB C. Love the concept but it is remarkable how long bike accessories have been holding out on USBC.

When I was a kid I remember discovering the heft of the home phone came from a big chunk of metal screwed into the plastic case. (My family moved to cell phones so I got the opportunity to disassemble the old phone.) Maybe just find some wa

Oh nice! I have been working on my own too! ( https://havenphone.com ). I was planning on the exact same model and pricing as well. I am curious: have you gone down the tr069 rabbit hole? If not how do you plan to do endpoint mana

The main feature I want for my kids is an explicit allow list to keep them from gettin spam or talking to randoms. The manual I found doesn't seem to have this feature. Also the advertising page has "Cloud Apps for news, weather,

Have you found a under powered phone that lets you lock down the Phone's incoming to an allow list? That is the thing me (and most parent friends) want: freedom from spam calls and potential strangers.

It blows my mind that the current Cisco ATA is $150+. For the service I am building (havenphone.com) I used Grandstream HT801 with success with voip.ms. I don't love how easy their cloud can take over the device though.

What tech stack did you use before? It is interesting so many comments mention Pi when there are so many boring VOIP phones. I wrote an app that some friends use right now. So, always interested to hear what people cobbled together!

I went the DIY route (you can find the details as a parent comment). But, I had good luck with voip.ms as a SIP provider. It is inexpensive at $1.10/month for the phone number and $0.008/min for calling. And it has a pretty good h

An easy at home setup is Raspberry Pi running Batocera and Zaparoo with NFC cards. If you buy a three ring binder you can neatly organize the NFC cards. Bonus: it is an arts and crafts project to put on the stickers for the cards. https:&#
