With postgres you could vertically scale the database or shard the data. With cockroach you could add more nodes while keeping the replication count constant.

Yes, and there is also a notable difference to CockroachDB running as a single instance.

Python takes ~180 assembly instructions to add two numbers, where „compiled to machine code“ languages only take one. Casey Muratori has a real in-depth course on why Python is slow and how to make it fast, among many other things why softw

Why even add the pipe operator? If the DB engine is executing the statement out of order, why not allow the statement to be written in any order and let itself figure it out?

Not sure if I'm holding it wrong, but when I played with it I nowhere got results that are anything remotely like a proper search engine (thinking of Algolia, Elasticsearch, etc.). It was good at finding the text I was searching for bu

The difficult thing about payments is not necessarily formatting payment instructions to ISO20022, but rather setting up the underlying infrastructure like: - Shelving a Windows box in some authorized datacenter. - Going through a years lon

Just noticed that your root directory is already „package main“ so you can either move that to /cmd/something/ or simply rename models/ to q/. That would have the same effect and is also idiomatic.

One quick suggestion on project structure: Move all the structs from models/ into the root directory. This allow users of this package to have nice and short names like: q.Message and q.Queue, and avoids import naming conflicts if the

Without being able to verify, I would assume it’s designed to behave in this way. The longer you wait the more anticipation builds up, the more gratifying it becomes.

As of right now Flyscrape just parses HTML using CSS selectors from static DOM. But as more than enough websites there days are just an empty shell I am working on adding browser rendering support.

Shameless plug: Flyscrape[0] eliminates a lot of boilerplate code that is otherwise necessary when building a scraper from scratch, while still giving you the flexibility to extract data that perfectly fit your needs. It comes as a single b

Not really scientific or anything but I tend to give it the task: „Write a simple http server in Go that saves all requests into a SQLite database.“ What I am looking for is: - did it forget to import the SQLite driver? - is it doing weird

Would it be possible to mmap the model parameters, allowing us to run even larger models? How much of an performance impact would that have?

There aren‘t any hard rules here, but you can try to build your business logic as if it was a library, where your HTTP API is merely a interface to it.

In my experience a lot of engineers are stuck thinking in MVC terms an fail to write modular code. As a result most business logic is part of a request / response flow. This makes it infeasible to even attempt to write tests first, thu

Colly is a great scraping library if you are a Go developer. Flyscrape on the other hand is a ready-made CLI tool that aims to be easy to use even for someone who is a little familiar with JavaScript. It just happens to be written in Go, bu
