The ITC is an interesting place for this to end up. I once was in a class where an ITC commissioner (or something like that) came and talked about the ITC's role in international trade. My limited understanding is that they typically are so

This is why I love Hacker News - although there are other options out there, their feature set (and pricing) pretty much perfectly describes what I was looking for. I don't know whether this will be the eventual solution vs. ZenCoder (or so

I'd be curious what industry this in - one engineer out of 20 employees seems totally insufficient. Especially if you're responsible for the entirety of their software offering.

Patents are totally beyond me. Supposedly there's a concept of "non-obviousness" but every patent that is disputed is strikingly obvious to a "person of ordinary skill in the art." On a panel of 5 competent engineers, asked "How might we go

Frankly, the discussion below turns quickly into bickering, but in response to your question, in my limited experience I think you've hit the nail on the head in terms of the size of the community, though I think that has more to do with th

I was very young during the dot com boom, but this sounds awfully familiar. Someone (PG?) described the approach of the era as burning investment to create revenue, profits be damned, then looking for a huge IPO. Presumably Groupon has actu

It's possible that I simply haven't made enough effort, but trying to get PIL and Reportlab working from a virtualenv has been an uphill battle. I'd really like those libraries to work on OSX, Linux & Windows, but so far it has been eas

This is remarkably similar to how I setup my Django settings.py files. The only thing I'd add is I like to have a lib folder and do a sys.path.insert(0, PATH/TO/Lib/Folder) in my manage.py and .wsgi files. This makes it really easy to manag

Glad to see it! Some of the new stuff is really cool, and means I won't have to rely on external libraries anymore (like passing context variables in template includes). Also, the new logging functionality is really great! Keep up the good

An interesting idea in theory, but I'm pretty sure this has been addressed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-sale_doctrine

In general society, the concept of "peak oil" is a given. People involved in oil/energy generally believe it's a myth. I personally believe they have too much of a horse in the race to accept that oil is not limitless, but to this point the

In my experience, you really only see Integer Explorer in China. That being said, locally modified versions of Internet Explorer are extremely common. I can't remember their names off the top of my head, but even relatively unsophisticated

I interned this summer in a genetics lab, and was shocked the extent to which this is the case. Both the input and output files are absurdly huge, so I'm not sure anything else would've been viable, but still, at least as a student it alway

I will not be upgrading tonight. (Yesterday) Due to ATI's poor Linux support on their newer video cards, even upgrading my kernel is often a pain. Furthermore, without significant new features, I'm perfectly happy to keep my box chugging al
