It’s very fast at telling me it can’t tell me things! I asked about creating illicit substances — an obvious (and reasonable) target for censorship. And, admirably, it suggested getting help instead. That’s fine. But I asked for a poem abou

I'd love to make Calibre better! Unfortunately, I don't think it's under great stewardship, and the existing codebase makes it hard to make significant progress with a fork. Above all, really, I think it's a fun project

What are the core features of calibre for you? Do you use any plugins? I’m working on building a replacement for Calibre that is backwards compatible. I’d love to hear what you expect in that kind of tool.

For lots of beauty/care products, Yuka does a great job of letting you check if a product has PFAS in it while in store. It supports some food too, iirc. But I’m not sure if there’s a better app overall

Raindrop is very good for storing bookmarks, Omnivore is pretty good at being a read-it-later app. You can annotate in Raindrop, but it's not very ergonomic, and I honestly don't even recall if it has a reader mode. I'm certa

From looking at the 1Password app, exporting Passkeys isn't an option. that's a bit of a usability nightmare IMO, one which I hadn't considered. I'm still strongly in favor of passkeys overall, though. They don't ne

Helix is great! I learned Vim around five years ago, and bounced between it and VSCode for a while. I started using Neovim full-time for work and only moved to VSCode when a plugin upgrade broke my config. Now, I use Helix too — it's n

I think this article is focused on "multiplayer" in the contemporary non-game sense (which I still find weird). However, I think an interesting thought experiment is a system that DOES share that secret state between players in a

Right. And the other 55% goes to… the folks I watch. Steam takes a 30% cut or something when I buy video games. I’m not about to start pirating games and mailing cheques to the developer. I don’t assume that my YT Premium is paying for lavi

Not sure what you mean? I’m also not super happy paying the amount that I do for rent. That doesn’t mean I don’t like my apartment or that I’m not willing to stomach that extra amount for the value I get. I’d prefer they were both cheaper.

SmartTube Next is great, and I do use that on my Shield now for sponsorblock. On web I recommend adding DeArrow to your YouTube extensions to make the experience a bit more bearable. Hopefully they add that in soon too!

That’s a family membership IIRC. It’s for 5 or 6 people. We don’t have any other streaming services and spend a lot of time watching and listening to YouTube, so it’s well worth it. If you want to remove those embedded ads, SponsorBlock and

Well, in part, the problem is that everything that grows in North America is not ready to grow in India. So tons of plants and animals will die when their ecosystems disappear. Ponds will evaporate , rivers will move or stop running. It’s a

Thanks to this article, I learned that the core data structure for VSCode's text is written in TypeScript[0]. I, uh, I knew VS Code was written in TypeScript but I didn't realise _all_ of it was. It's crazy to think that the

I’m excited to see this grow. Raycast has been a big boon to me and having an open source competitor is great to see. Have you considered making your plug-in API compatible with Raycast (if that’s possible)?

Very interesting take on the Wordle genre. I specifically enjoyed how you have to kind of dance around topics, trying to find words that push in different semantic directions.

The difference, to me, about Pocket is that I use it specifically as a to-read list. My list is just "sites I want to visit/read/watch later", whereas bookmarks are more of "I want to go here regularly". Also,

Yes. It's important that as a society we come to terms with the fact that historically, and now, a lot of people use whatever little power and fame they have to abuse others. We can't sit by and let this happen.
