What's wrong with it? It's like arguing about grammar. We've been going back and forth on the Oxford Comma for at least 300 years now, with no end in sight.

There's a png in the project. Is it an icon that's used by both iPhone and iPad? A background image used by only one? A texture they share? The nib and @2x annotations don't handle that stuff.

This would definitely require more work on the developer's part! Right now the situation is: toss whatever you want into the bundle and it's there everywhere. For what you're proposing to have any benefit it would have to be: add files, ann

Well put. There's certainly a lot of that, and even worse it can often seem like a competitive advantage. But there is good work being done, like http://ourchoicethebook.com/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YD8Zrruo6fE and there wi

The crazy thing is, this is good news for RIM. If Heins really cleaned house with the execs and he replaces them with people that can see reality, that's probably the only chance for RIM to stay an independent company. It's not clear that

acqq nails it -- there's an upper bound, and in the meantime you have to put all those panels somewhere. Get ready to write off a lot of land to scale up. (Get ready to write off a lot more if this is how you're planning to power the magic

You must mean the recent past, because that's exactly what happened for 10s of millions of years during the late Cretaceous. Edit: and of course a bunch of other times during the Phanerozoic - I just picked one.

If you really believe there's an infinite amount of constant-price solar power available, I've got a solar panel the size of Manitoba to sell you.

Thanks for all the killer links in here - I got a bunch of useful tools (rotated iPhone image template) that I didn't know about out of it.

I question whether it makes sense to implement custom UI with transparent PNGs like the slideshow describes. It's pretty tough to get it exactly right, and that approach leads to a lot of interfaces that look a bit off. On iOS, with some dr

I'm more sympathetic than usual to the part of the patent he screenshotted. At least pull to refresh is novel. But this broad construction? It attempts to patent any interaction where you start out scrolling then trigger something else: ht

This seems exactly backwards. I took that essay as a call for more people to please start applying to YC with really big ideas so they can fund more of them.

That's cash/equivalents + short-term securities + long-term securities. Total assets are $138b. This all gets pulled from SEC filings. Here's the most recent: http://investor.apple.com/secfiling.cfm?filingID=1193125-12-...

Interesting post, but there's a lot that's wrong here. For example, it's really not true that Apple tends towards vertical integration.

And they suck at advertising, and they suck at web services. Why go in deeper? The thing Twitter has that could be of value is a big library of users with accounts, but Apple already has that. iTunes accounts are (I think) roughly the same
