Don’t destroy Bitcoin. Invent a more efficient alternative for people to switch to.

I kind of agree... although I still think F# is a win over C#. IMO the syntax is much nicer and idiomatic F# is still pretty fast. However, I wish the compiler would more aggressively optimise things so that I can dip into this style less o

JVMs that most people use are optimised for repeated execution of the same code paths on long running processes. If this isn’t your use-case then lots of tuning work is required.

As individuals I think we should all strive to succeed, and employ any clever strategies we can find. However, the statistics around this suggest that it isn’t viable for everyone to do this.

I take a completely opposite view. If I get stuck on something, I go straight to StackOverflow etc to ask for a solution or at least get more information. Then, I can keep tinkering myself or switch to a completely different task. I am far

Some of the examples you gave are simply capturing negative externalities (e.g. carbon emissions). Often a precise externality tax is too difficult for a government to implement so a ban is done instead. The UK banned free plastic bags at l

Proof of Work is a simple algorithm that has worked for over 10 years. Proof of Stake is incredibly complex and might be broken in implementation or from a game theory perspective. It also might be a huge improvement over PoW... it’s just t

People computing the joules/tx of Bitcoin are missing that PoW scales such that the amount of a transaction has nothing to do with the amount of mining work that validates it. I hope that initiatives like Lightning Network can help it

Is it a good test case though? If the language is designed for writing compilers then sure, but I imagine most people using TypeScript (for example) just want to write full-stack web applications.

Hmmm my conclusion was drawn from the following languages having their main compiler written in that language: Haskell, Java, Scala, OCaml, Kotlin, C++, C#, F#, Rust, Go, Nim, Zig... Not criticising any of these choices, but one has to wond

In academia many compilers are written in functional languages, particularly OCaml. Unfortunately, the programming community has come to this bone-headed idea that to be a serious language, its compiler must be implemented in itself. As a r

My suggestion is to use Terraform to build something and read lots of docs. I think that Terraform gives you a clearer picture of how the pieces of AWS fit together than the console does.
