As much as I wish the innovations of g+ and Facebook were centered around RSS and email, this is just the way new technologies evolve. Identity management and permissions management for who can see a user's content just don't have a good st

The reasoning in the article is a bit off for evaluating the popularity of a website. Saying the usage has dropped in 11 of 21 isn't surprising. Many websites gain users in a pattern of big spikes, followed by steep drops, but with the new

It's a nice visualization. One more suggestion: Do label the time zone. even if it correctly detects the user's time zone, that's unexpected on the internet. Plus you don't label 'current' time... for all I know it's a Time Zone ahead but o

I had a high-school teacher that told us you could write a SSN on an envelope and the postal service was required by law to get it to the person. He claimed to have tried it out by sending himself a letter, but it took many months to arrive

I did click on "learn web design" and was taken to a video with no description. I turned it off after a few seconds of pleasantries (eg. "Don't worry if you're totally new to web design"). I really think you guys should consider putting a c

This whole fiasco is just a standard example of the mismatch between the sales/marketing/pr view of a product that the world normally sees and the what engineers think of it. PR people talk about what's good about a product all day. That's

This has been done for the sake of creating an 'ethical' investment vehicle. There were a few index funds that were built around investing in ethical companies. The problem was that over time almost every company in the S&P500 made it i

While I totally agree with this speech, it also seemed a bit odd coming from Steve Jobs. Sure, he lived his life that way, but it took thousands of Apple employees doing exactly what he wanted to fulfill his vision. His success came from be

I would agree. With a population size of only 20 the algorithm is closer to being hill-climbing with random restart. Crossover can't do much if there isn't a lot of diversity in the population, and a small population can't be very diverse.

Agreed. The reason I end up with some '-er' classes is to separate out immutable definitions and the classes that work on the definitions. In your example, by making the FlowchartShape a simple definition class, you can then write that to a

I know everyone likes to think Steve Jobs came up with the idea of focusing on a few very good products, but it's actually an old idea. "Indeed, the basic problem of U.S. competitive strength in the world economy today may well be product c

Maybe it's obvious, but using more or less the same technique with a piece of music and an instrument in your hands works great, too. You learn small nuances in how better musicians play while also getting in some good ear training. Works m
