"why do Paul Graham and YC continue investing their time and resources on this news site?" A hacker wouldn't find this such a mystery. Once you build something that has users, it's hard to shut it down. (I'm not denying HN has benefits for

As I said earlier, there are also helpful investors who are willing to buy stock at high valuations. Which means those who aren't have a lower ratio of value to cost. And lowering one's valuation is not an automatic way to make a round clo

The higher the average price you pay, the fewer deals you can afford to be in That's only true if you have to get a certain amount of stock, which is the case for VCs doing series A rounds, but not for angels or VCs doing seed rounds of t

Actually high valuations tend to be correlated with clean terms. Which is not surprising since both reflect founders having power relative to investors.

"They had been completely priced out!" This is a fallacy. People use this term "priced out" as if it meant some sort of process, but it means nothing more than that the investor thought the startup's stock was too expensive. And it is ver

Presumably gun advocates who were worried about new laws would not also be searching for, say, "gun violence" http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=%22gun%20violence%22&... or "gun deaths" http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=%22gun%2

Not at all. Among other things this shows politicians how much people care about fixing this problem. With any luck it will be another "if the people lead, the leaders will follow" moment like with SOPA.

I don't know what the cause might be, unfortunately. But the site is lightly loaded and thus pretty fast now, so if you can reproduce the problem now, it's something weird on your end.

The site literally crashes your browser? I've never heard of that happening. HN is busiest (and thus slowest) from roughly 9 to 11 pacific time.

I don't see why anyone would conclude the VC business couldn't grow. Sure, individual partners can't sit on more boards. But (a) the ratio of board seats to money invested can shrink, and in fact has already been shrinking dramatically, a
