Like most trends among VCs it has started at the top. The top west coast firms are the most willing to concede power to founders. Lower-tier firms, and firms in other places, are less willing to, largely because in this as in other respec

This is sort of true, but what it misses is that money and power are only loosely coupled. The real story is that VCs have decreasing power over the companies they fund, regardless of the deal size. For example, it is now the norm among Y

Jessica grabbed me at the YC din last night and told me excitedly that she had some good news. I was sort of hoping it would be something more exciting, but it was that Instacart had added Whole Foods. Instacart is one of those cos like He

I'm constantly amazed at the human mind's inability to measure happiness on an absolute scale Under its other name, the ability to adapt to misfortune, this inability has been a very useful thing for humans to have.

This comes on top of an article a few days ago that (to people in the business at least) was almost as preposterous, in which their ranking criterion for VC funds was number of acquisitions. http://www.privco.com/top-20-venture-capital-fi

Actually Google would have had one of the clearest answers: that the web is growing to the point where (a) search matters a lot and (b) ranking results based on textual similarity is no longer enough.
