If you take a look at the HN jobs page, you'll see that's not true. Of the companies looking for "hackers" one is doing document signing and the other is writing healthcare software.

I'm embarrassed to see such nonsense coming from a company we funded. A hacker is not intrinsically someone who throws things together to see if they'll work. The phrase "kernel hacker," for example, doesn't mean

Actually Amir's company is still operating. But even if it weren't, you'd be mistaken. People who fail have some of the most valuable insights. I learned YC's motto "Make something people want" from failing

I apologize to the world for this thread. There are clearly topics that an open forum, or at least this one, can't be trusted with, and this seems to be one of them. We have some ideas for new moderation features that we hope will mak

The reason they want to be free is to work on what they want. If someone starts a nonprofit that they expect to be their life's work, they've achieved the same result (though perhaps with a bit more risk).

Sure there is. Imagine telling a child "your drawings are very clumsy; they don't look at all like what they're drawings of," or telling a very old person "you're probably going to die soon." Mean-spirite

Is there a specific sentence or passage in the essay that you feel is false and would like to refute? That would be more convincing than mere accusations of isms you feel the author is guilty of.
