Web Components have some nice features, some bad features, and no killer feature. Developers have mostly chosen to ignore them for other approaches (React, Vue) where there are better ergonomics and stronger network effects.

Old social media never gave full access to the firehose so there’s a pretty big difference. If you want large scale social networks, you need to work with a large scale of data. Since federated open queries aren’t feasible, you need big mac

This is pretty accurate. We have some proposals in development for 2 and 3 but it won't be soon. 1 and 4 are straightforward. The rest take QoL hours. Probably an unnamed 5th bullet point is finding experience novelty which make the ot

I didn’t mean to come off as dismissive, really I was trying to voice that part which we’ve both been through, the endless stack of existential concerns that you have to get comfortable with in this job. I’m actually quite acutely concerned

Like every other app we’ll constantly battle with it. It’s the job. And then disagreements about how we handle it will create controversies, and then that’s where the protocol comes in, where other apps show up and provide viewpoint divers

Well, either way it’s useful to be real about the kinds of challenges that come with social media. It’s not hypothetical. And we’re still at a very small scale compared to most networks (9mm users)
