Well written, good read. His final paragraphs tied it up neatly with some good points of his own, and it's a fun thought experiment. Would be great to run a poll to see who sides with the robot devil.

The public would prefer to have the most possible value out of their internet service. While charging content-hosts extra for bandwidth can increase the quality of those services, it risks degrading the breadth of content, the ease of small

Is there some kind of private-sector/public-sector "who built silicon valley" battle going on right now? See [1] 1. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8001224 EDIT: may just be coincidence, but they're

How about building it to be self-hosted and releasing under the AGPL license?

FWIW, inboxapp is self-hosted and under AGPL, so it's forkable.

This is something I've been wanting for a while now (a self-hostable REST wrapper around email) so I'm pretty excited. Thanks guys.

I'd rather they create a CSP directive like 'embed-ancestors' to restrict embedding. That seems like less overhead than a request header that's attached to all <img> requests.

Report URIs are pretty important for deploying CSP on an existing site. Without it, you'd have to risk breaking the experience for a lot of users (because it's hard to nail the policy on the first try) and you'd never get any

One good smell-test is to ask what would go wrong if you got spidered by Google. In this case (God help you) your horn would randomly honk. Thumbs down.

Only if you plan for the horn to keep honking until you patch again, I figure. GET definitely should not produce a honking sound. GET is meant to not have side-effects. If the response to the GET were, say, a URL which refers to a usable ho

EDIT: fixed, thanks. I figure you're doing some live updating to the code right now, but just a heads up, I get two errors and a blank page atm: XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://api.grasswire.net/v1/newsfeeds.

The post is a little dense, I'll try to summarize: it's basically Backbone split into NPM modules so you can pick & choose. For instance, you want Backbone's collections, but don't want the whole Backbone library, so

This is the first time I've seen the symbolic manipulation explained. It's kind of like pattern-matching taken up to 11. Can anybody give some practical examples? For instance, the docs mention here that it's used in lieu of

Rendering HTML to WebGL textures would be big, which I think this could do - though probably not as performantly as the browser could. It's currently not possible, partially due to security concerns if I remember right.

There are common standards for links. I think you can do reasonably well by supporting 2 or 3, though I'd prefer the world moved to the Link header. The others are html (<link>, <a>) json-hal, jsonld, etc. Regarding the pro

That's a pretty fair view in my mind. Games companies are always troubled by sustainability, so I don't think Zynga's problems are unique - and that's a problem. Their stock would've only been worth buying if they h

There's maybe some truth to what you're claiming, but I think you're describing something overly-nefarious. Startups are inherently risky for their investors. They're going to try to market themselves well to cover up th

So the pitch is, it's a managed CMS backend that gets your content-creators working immediately while you dev the rest of the site. Then you just run queries to pull the content. Not a bad idea; worth checking out if you're in the
