Yet another example could be people making a path across a lawn over time because existing paths are insufficient, and they prefer to take a shortcut.

If you're routinely working on many repositories and cloning new ones, it's more convenient to know that if you clone it into this directory, it will be configured for work. I have used a similar setup for a while now, and it&#x

There's still a lot of legacy HPUX servers out there, mostly running SAP+Oracle combo, but they all slowly get phased out in favour of Linux or Windows boxes. Still, some of them will likely remain chugging along for years to come, bec

Fully agree. I believe that taps into many thousands of years of tribalism - every human that ever lived had an "us" group and one or several "them" groups, and inter-group relations were rarely friendly.

Fair enough, my wording was incorrect, and you are technically correct (the best kind of correct). :) What I should have said is "All of the people currently running Libera have been successfully running Freenode for all these years.&q

Yes, both networks are starting with metaphorical trustworthiness level at zero. Libera, however, has a lot of implicit trust and goodwill because it is run by all the people who have been successfully running Freenode for all these years.

That is not necessarily true for Freenode or Libera. Client connections over TLS are encouraged, and I'm pretty sure that server-to-server links are all over TLS also. Plus, there are some controls for users and channel admins to make
