It isn't always that easy. For example, where I work, bringing up a full stack locally involves multiple Python processes (servers) with the frontend accessed via the browser. Using this tool will work immediately, while using pdb woul

Yes emscripten also uses llvm, at least as one of the options. It also has nice functionality like libc and libc++. My linked repo has a tiny malloc and I imported a printf from elsewhere. I added libc++. It was working, but made the binary

Since llvm 8 is now released, perhaps people are interested in this.

No, it is not needed any more. I have a demo here: https://github.com/PetterS/clang-wasm But be prepared to work without libc if you don't use emscripten. Writing a malloc is fun though!

So much better! Overloading addition for something that behaves differently is not good.

I think overloading + so that a + b != b + a is problematic. I know this is the case for strings and lists, but those cases are very well established.

I was surprised by page 24: "Definitely Illegal!" The ⊥ shape is apparently illegal because "because the receiving brick has smaller dimensions than the one being connected to it." I always thought that was intentionally

Author is "Captain S/V Red Herring". I thought it strange that he would start by defining what a ring is, but I am not familiar with the intended audience.

If importing rabbits to Australia would have saved 500,000 lives annually, it would have been one of the best health-related things to happen to humanity. (The eradication of this particular mosquito species is likely harmless, but that doe

Actually, the previous time this was discussed on Hacker News, I saw a lot of posters with reasonable opinions.

Agreed. You don't really need a testing framework in Python. It's nice, and I use one, but a script with asserts (potentially importing other scripts) goes a long way.

> and removed Python 2 from our application binary. This marked the end of our Python version migration! No. :-) Now you need to remove all compatibility code, modernize your syntax and gradually start using new features.

I think it can still be read, but with a more critical mind and other, recent sources. You have a valid point, though. Would be really interesting to have Kahneman discuss the crisis in a new chapter.

Would really like a second edition for that book. The replication crisis has, unfortunately not been kind to some of the things in the book.

I think that to answer the question in the title, looking at two persons only is the wrong approach.

Python (mentioned in an article) usually works nicely without a build system. C++ does not. The build system will also take care of this problem, just as we currently e.g. define libraries in cmake.

Agreed, but google/ on GitHub just contains code that happens to be owned by Google, due to the authors being employees.

To add to the answers already given, this is indeed a viable option to solve some problems, see e.g. the barrier method for linear programming. But then the constant 10^30 is gradually increased for numerical reasons.

It is almost comical. But it seems to be working, since it got a lot of attention. I should call my latest paper about finding integer solutions to LP relaxations something with quantum. I agree that the crucial property of quantum systems

Mostly searching for regexes in code and in filenames. But yes, history would sometimes be useful too. And this is really the bare minimum. An even better search would e.g. allow searching for identifiers (comments and strings disregarded).
