I love that I can now use Edge when using Google services such as Gmail and Chrome when accessing Microsoft sites such as Office 365. That way neither company can log me into the browser itself when I log into their sites. This should reduc

Then invest in the stock market. Even accounting for the dotcom crash and the 2008 crash the stock market has gone up around 10% every year when you average it out.

This is a misleading story. Yes, the stock market rose significantly in 2019. But it had also dipped severely at the end of 2018. When you account for that dip, stock performance has been average. Example: On Dec 21 2018 SPY (S&P 500 ET

What stands out about Boeing's mistakes is how easy it is for laypersons to understand the mistakes. Relying on only one sensor, no redundancy? Anyone who has stood up a service on the cloud will be astounded that Boeing made this mist

In hindsight, should Boeing have increased the Max's ground clearance before fitting it with a large engine? I read that Boeing did not want to do this because that would have meant that the Max would not be compatible with existing ai

How did Airbus avoid the problem Boeing ran into? As I understand, Boeing wanted to use larger engines because larger, hotter engines burn less fuel. But increasing the diameter of the engine ordinarily means raising the wing in order to ac

[Boeing] engineers observed a tendency for the plane’s nose to pitch upward during a specific extreme maneuver. After other efforts to fix the problem failed, the solution they arrived at was a piece of software — the Maneuvering Character

If that was all that's needed 737 Max's would all be back in the air by now. There is a fundamental problem in the design. The plane tends to pitch up when accelerating. Under certain circumstances this can cause the plane to stal

If it is not stable enough then it is unstable. Where do you draw the bar on stability, if not airworthiness?

There is so much doublespeak here. If it is less stable than required for airworthiness then it is not airworthy. Can we agree on that?

Would you prefer "insufficiently stable" instead? The kinds of mistakes Boeing made are so basic that even laypersons can immediately understand it. Like not having redundant sensors. Like fixing a hardware problem using software.

You missed the big one that even made MCAS necessary: 0. Reposition the engine forward on the wing such that the airframe is inherently unstable and needs software for stabilization.

You may refuse to fly on 737 Max, but how do you feel about 737-8200? Boeing will likely not use the "Max" name when the plan is put back into service. See: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-48995509
