What library are you using for automatic differentiation. I am working on building code to optimize (and later build) high quality finite element meshes for structural analysis. For the initial proof of concept, I am simply doing finite dif

Additionally when you are at your destination, you are most likely going to be needing your car too. Most American cities require a car to get anywhere you want to go. E.g. I can technically take the bus to get to work where I live, but it

There are simulation codes, but IBM makes their old machines publicly available. I wish I had time to look it up for you, but if you are interested that should give you a lead.

My sister shared a tip she uses when moving to a new town. Say yes to every social engagement no matter what. I have gotten a lot of leverage out of being religiously involved (not just showing up Sunday morning, but showing up for workday

Yes WFIRST[0] is currently in the works. JPLRMA[1] is investigating low cost mirror for space observation although they are primarily focused on the outer planets of our solar system. [0] https://wfirst.gsfc.nasa.gov/ [1] ht

Yes, but I was in graduate school making $1500/mo and was doing it mostly for fun as a class project. I was also very naive about how much effort it would take to process that data. Both google and yahoo have current data which is ea

Because there is a real moat with data ownership and pipelines. If you want to do any analysis you quickly find that learning to properly use scikit-learn and tensorflow (or your machine learning algorithm of your choice) is atleast an ord

This is also how many silicon chip manufacturers check for defects. I remember attending a seminar on it in graduate school. Used an ultra fast laser to create a shock wave and then measured the reflections which came back.

A point which I didn't think of: we are already paying for everyone's healthcare. Doctors and hospitals can't turn anyone away and they aren't losing money. So it's really an accounting problem how do we collect t

I have a PhD (in mech engineering) and work in industry. My experience was that I basically had to pick up a new physics set and tool set every year as I jumped from algorithm development, to constitutive model development, machine learning

That's because genetic algorithms and simulated annealing algorithms are really similar. You could imagine a GA as being a multiple simulated annealing algorithm in which you occasionally cross pollinated your solutions. Technically, i

ANN's aren't that much different than polynomial regression, the issue is that there are upwards of millions of parameters. Totally intractable for the human mind.
