Certainly the Borland 8087 emulation code used to have an interrupt call followed by the 8087 opcodes, the interrupt call got replaced at run time by NOPs if there was a co-processor present.

I did do this back in the VB5 days and it was a proper pain. From memory I couldn't get the listbox window to draw outside of it's hosting window (needed for controls at the bottom of a window) and allow moving of the hosting wind

The DE-9 version was before my time (in development terms) I think it used RS485 and a Z8530 but the 4Mbps speed feels a bit quick for those technologies. I can still remember the prefix 00802C which we used for Ethernet addresses and at on

Yep certainly do. The cards and software were written for Sage by a company called Alfa Systems formed out of the remains of Sinclair (David Karlin who designed the QL, Rupert Goodwins who wrote bits of Spectrum ROM and few others) with an

The biggest kickers for Apple were: a) Sensible means of payment, no need to setup credit card processing, do deals with carriers etc for developers. Oh and no carrier lockdown on installing applications. b) Macs going x86 based so you coul

I'm sure I personally have failed programming tests by doing too much (or not enough) "enterprise" programming in particular stuff that requires things like parsing a CSV file. Do you use a third party library, roll your own,

I'd guess that PAE on x86 systems might really hurt with this. Basically any system where the memory model is one of segment + offset will run into trouble with pointer comparisons. Ever since the 8086 I've assumed that pointer ma

Eh. A real VT100 should understand tabs, you can set them with 'Esc H' oddly the DEC manuals don't say what the effect of resetting tabs would be (I'd guess it defaults to multiples of 8 characters).

As far as I know WHQL is automated so it's unlikely. i.e. you test it rather than MS and submit the results to them. MS then sign the driver package and pass it back. Don't think there are any humans involved.
