If you like information about minerals, you might find my visualisation of world production of different minerals also interesting: https://ninhursag.herokuapp.com/ The green line shows world production form year 1900 to ab

Is there a bug when one line segment is between two letters? This can also happen if you draw two lines with one row between them and then a third line in between them. I get that ┼ is a single point, and the logic would be more complicated

My friend who studied biochemistry in Turku University once had this kind of poster on his wall, but it had all the pathways overlaid on a human body. When I first saw it, I studied it for the better part of an hour. I have been trying to f

Finally! Why on earth this was not implemented in the first place on web browsers?

Gemini protocol is lightweight alternative to HTTP which concentrates on the actual content (like Gopher). I spent couple of nights just browsing random people’s pages and it felt like fresh air – and very reminiscient of the nineties web!

I would add Emacs style editors to the list: - zile - mg - qemacs I use zile almost daily for small edits.

There is a style rule on the site that makes everything (including text) almost white. I am using Chrome 91 on Mac. * { background: #fbfcff; } Disabling that rule or using reader mode helps to read the article.

Gemini is quite interesting in that brings nostalgic feeling from when the web was a new thing, but is also modern. The Lagrange browser seems quite polished.

I had a pleasure to watch an amazing talk from Joe Armstrong at Reaktor Breakpoint 2015 in Helsinki. The funniest part of the talk was when Joe presented a diagram showing the stock market value of Ericsson being up always when he was worki

The API seems much more intuitive than that of D3.js! I used D3.js originally to draw line charts to visualise USGS mineral statistics, but currently only use it for svgLine (from d3-shape) and scaleLinear and scaleLog (form d3-scale) funct

That exactly is the reason why I switched from using D3.js to create charts to creating the SVGs in Angular (that was ten years ago...) and only using the scale and path methods of D3.js. It is real pain with D3.js to keep the code in nicel

This is an advertisement of a book, although on an interesting subject. I find it surprising the book does not seem to come with digital medium to hold the demos.

I find the glitches in Lyra codec very unpleasant compared to the other codecs. They remind of the visual glitches of AI generated images, and I really hope Lyra does not become a common codec!

There are several things that might cause fans spinning at high speed: - Some application is using a lot of CPUs and other resources - Spotlight is indexing the hard drive, and is misbehaving (see for mdworker processes) - The ventilation h

Actually there has been a `systemsetup` command for a long time now, that is preferred to using `bless`: List the available startup volumes: sudo systemsetup -liststartupdisks Set startup partition: sudo systemsetup -setstartupdisk /Vo

Actually, just pressing alt or option on an external keyboard should go to the boot partition selector. If you are using a wireless keyboard, do not press the key until you hear the startup chime, because bluetooth is not loaded until then:

The command is bless, and it requires some options to be able to boot a Windows partition: Example to boot from `dev/disk0s3` once: sudo /usr/sbin/bless --device /dev/disk0s3 --setBoot --legacy --nextonly More

Speaking of which — while cycling through windows with Cmd-tab, you can hide or quit them by pressing h or q, by keeping the command button pressed.

On the other hand, Google Chrome is a real resource hog these days, and sometimes the usage is not shown in CPU or memory columns in top or htop. You might find that Firefox or Opera are more leight weight.

Check out if there is a process causing a lot of CPU usage, and google that together with fans. Macosxhints.com or iFixit.com might have the solution to fix it.

1. I vaguely remember there being some command or sysctl preference which you can use to set options for next boot and also control sleep options.
