You cannot state either (1) or (2). It seems you're trying to believe the latter, and it might be true for some wrong-doers; however common sense suggests that not viewing such videos should contribute to lower abuse rates. Even if i

One could also argue they are discovering a niche (developers who need to get on the go really fast, really often), so they're entering a tiny fraction of one market only. I guess it all comes down to perspective.

Because you need to track and update the temporary state. Maps and folds let you define your stepping algorithm separately.

Well, there must be a reason why research keeps discovering new ways of computing and programming while the industry is stucked with the outdated methods. I loved that movie, but I don't think it is too relevant here. I mean, you can r

I'm sorry, but you're upset because folks are passionate about a language that brings new perspective, and maybe is not exactly as useful in some areas as existing solutions? This is exactly the kind of attachment Bret warns about

Well, I've been continously reassured that learning the theory is unneccessary if all you want is to use Haskell effectively.

My long term bet is Haskell, but boy do the examples look ugly. And most of Haskell really is ugly. My mind just can't get around type names like "M a p f b c => (a -> p) -> b -> c -> a" just yet. I know it

I was aware of the Hudson-Jenkins duality, but didn't know Oracle is to blame for that one, too. Even if a company needs to defend its trademarks and such, why is there almost a need to ruin everything else in the process?
