Yeah this is it. Once you stop thinking "all these people will probably judge me or dislike me" or "I need to be on the defensive" when you don't even know the people there, social events become much easier.

It's a you thing. Plenty of tech nerds watch Netflix shows, we're not a separate species. I'm 27 and don't care to watch new TV shows, whether it's prestige or Netflix thing-of-the-month shows. I prefer films and re

Backup to a Macbook/iMac. It's what I do when I get a new iPhone — much faster to restore than over iCloud or wireless transfer. Only issue is that, of course, it isn't automatic.

Kids still buy or want iPhones and see blue bubbles as desirable. As long as hardware sales are strong (and they are), Apple can miss out on the next cool app or have services that perform just okay.

Makes sense! Just surprised — obviously love > all, but I'd prefer to date someone in a different field of work myself.

Not surprised by lawyer. Only other lawyers can understand the long hours and stress.

I am but I am not as well. I have found male programmers to have a more diverse dating/marriage pool, though most are still "tech"-y office jobs e.g. designer. That's just middle/upper middle class sticking together

Honestly job-wise it's pretty much been React-only for a good four or five years, if not more. Yeah I see posts using Vue or others but 99% of the time it's React.

If you sign up while under a Russian or Indian VPN, it is <$4 a month. You will need a Russian or Indian "address" for billing (at least I did) but any card will work.

YouTube Premium is overpriced because it includes Music and other stuff. Easy way around that is signing up using a VPN in Russia or India. My YTP costs $3/mo.

Completely depends on where you live AND also your social bubble. That's why these threads are often repetitive in nature. Everyone's different. Here in NYC, I can count the number of Android users I've met in one hand... but

Things are different in 2020. I pay $10/mo for Hinge[1] when I am actively dating. As a man it's a numbers game (like the article says) so the more likes I send, the better. The ~10 likes free Hinge gives me per day are useless. [

Pretty much everything else. I stop coding after 5pm-ish. I love to read, wander around my local park for hours, eat outside along or with friends, etc.

The internet itself is a military project and its pioneers were all either military-employed or had contracts early on, for actual military applications or surveillance. Read Yasha Levine's Surveillance Valley. Unfortunately it seems t

Purchase digital albums via the label or Bandcamp, which come with the art either in the directory or already tagged. Use a third party music player.

This is my main issue with Newport's work. It's all great advice but not much of it applies to a regular office worker.

Same here in the US. Forums like HN and /r/cscareerquestions overrate how many people do OSS or care about it. I think maybe 5% of devs I've worked with do anything beyond the 9-5.

Going to say yes, because most Senior Eng roles are not much different than regular Eng roles. The title is given as part of a recruiting tactic/negotiation. Good chance you can find a Senior role elsewhere that's just coding.

If in the US, HBO Max and the Criterion Channel will get you most of the way there. HBO Max has a portion of Criterion's canon plus a lot of Turner Classic Movies (American movies 1930s-50s). I'm the reverse of you - 90% of the ti

Not really. I log in and 9am and close my laptop at 5pm. If I work more it's like 42 hours per week... I'm definitely not working an extra two hours per week day.
