Honestly my university giving us rooftop access for working on and setting up radio equipment was one of the most educational and enriching things I did there. Restricting access to rooftops for students seems like a terrible idea for educa

HN isn't killed on free speech completely yet, I occasionally see an anti-China post

When Reddit became a sanitized social media platform rather than a free speech platform, it brought in a swathe of users who liked the sanitized social media platform, so you can't undo it.

Unless you bring a 6-shooter gun too, then it can be a public wild-west shootout at high-noon like the good old days.

Reminds me of how Microsoft packages the Windows installer actually. If you’ve ever unpacked Microsoft’s install.esd it’s interestingly insane how heavily it’s compressed. I assume it’s full of a lot of stuff that provides semi redundant bi

Extremely widespread embedded support and cross platform. Forth seems dead to me, whereas TCL is huge and has good docs, a good standard library with batteries included, and it's easy to implement on embedded hardware because of how we

The entire Python default windowing system relies on TCL, and companies like AMD use it for a lot of their internal test frameworks because it's easy to implement and well supported. So for embedded, which is people's argument for

Sometimes dithering is the right option depending on your use case. If it’s purely getting the smallest size, for example, go into Adobe Photoshop “save for web” and mess around with the various algorithms, formats, and dithering settings.

I've certainly seen a lot of yc links to older comments in newer comment threads, so certainly a lot of people are saving comments in a way where they can retrieve them relatively painlessly.

Ok well this ycombinator post you linked confirmed my suspicions that the challenge is targeted based on location/network address. > "ISTR that only works from the USA."

I'm still skeptical that location/network address doesn't have a "weight" in the equation; but yeah it could be un-related you make a good point.

And.. does doing something questionable for a long time make it good? Shouldn't abusing their dominance in the search engine marketplace to poach employees be a pretty big anti-trust thing?

I guess that's kind of subjective. Personally I'm anti USB-C from a durability standpoint. USB-C is designed to fail on the device-side, whereas lighting and microUSB are designed to fail on the cable side. So I see all devices us
