The best jobs I've had were all handshake deals, short and simple. The 10-hour ones (screenings, exercises, interviews ad nauseam) are usually still open months later. It's not you--it's them.

It's a numbers game--keep meeting with people and telling your story, particularly if you're in a large tech center. You're not old, either! You mentioned applying to larger companies, and it's probably more common there
