Somewhat improved, but especially in the notebook space it's still far from optimal. This is not necessarily fault of the commnunity - laptops often have custom hardware (e.g. NVIDIA Optimus) that simply doesn't have driver support because

That would suggest US medical research companies are not properly compensated by their European customers. I don't think that's the case :)

I'm pretty sure that a Swiss or UK physician does equally good job as his counterpart in the US.

I have a setup like that, I get more spam because of that of course but Google is really good at filtering it. And especially in conjunction with priority inbox, it's a breeze (and very convenient).

1. Chargebacks are only necessary because of the pull nature of the US banking system. I haven't even heard about chargeback until I came to US from Europe. Bitcoin is push, no chargebacks are necessary because nobody can take your money. 2

So basically you think that if the French populace had a lot of guns it would help them fight off Wehrmacht? It might help the resistance a little bit but otherwise it's useless. And even more so against modern armies.

And don't forget Japanese - in the sixties and seventies, they were copying technologies exactly like Chinese do today and everyone was afraid they're going to overrun the whole world.

Great writeup, but I have a comment on deploy: do you mean that "play start" can be used for production? Because otherwise, Django has runserver for development. It just shouldn't be used for production.

I'm curious, are other Java implementations (e.g. OpenJDK) really that bad? I mean, quite a lot of influential/resourceful companies are behind it, are they unwilling or unable to improve it?

I'd be very interested to hear a ballpark estimate how much data they're storing in their PostgreSQL instances. Any word on that?

But that would increase prices for programming work to the point where some projects simply would not make financial sense. So there would less projects and therefore less non-programming jobs associated with those projects.

I'm a foreign graduate student doing my Master's degree at a relatively well-known university in Texas and I really don't feel like a slave. The pay is modest (15K/year for 20h/week) but it is sufficient to live comfortably and occasionally

Well, I think we all agree that this isn't what RMS imagined (by a LONG shot). This is a kind of compromise, a merging of Free Software ideals with practical implementation how to translate Linux into a "consumer OS". The sad fact is that y

Well, that's for now. How is it going to be in 3 years? Is this just a grace period? Obviously it affects new signups first, they can't just cut off everybody and force to migrate to the paid version.
