How are these posts getting on the front page? The content both shallow and banal. Designers should write their own HTML and CSS if they care so much about alignment and margins. It's difficult to know the limits of your medium if all you d

There's less cognitive overhead in processing these renderings because there's less stuff to pay attention to. A photograph tends to record everything, which can be overwhelming if you're looking for select landmarks. Also, the real world t

Syberia I & II, The Longest Journey/Dreamfall are a couple of amazing adventure game series. Neither are exactly recent (2004 and 2007 respectively), but they're still full of atmosphere and enjoyable to play.

It's a great concept, but Explore doesn't have enough data--rather, cheap tickets--to be actually useful. If you don't mind doing multiple searches, http://matrix.itasoftware.com is much better at finding deals.

While readability is impressive, the zoom slider could use a slight tweak. It's far too easy to zoom out to the maximum setting when you meant to go one level up.

Looks fantastic. The removal of colons and parentheses makes this a net win over Sass, not even taking into account everything else. In a verbose and redundant-by-design language like CSS, anything which reduces the total number of keystrok

I prefer CloudApp ( http://getcloudapp.com ). There's almost no UI it at all: it just captures OS X screenshots and uploads them. I gave Skitch three minutes and gave up. Its UI is far too complicated for what it does.

The old Slashdot design bothered me so much I proposed a minimalist layout last year: http://nylira.com/p/slashdot Thoughts on this one: Slashdot's homepage is much cleaner than before, but the thick green bars denoting each story is visu

To someone who recently bought and then gave up an iPhone, this essay really strikes a chord. I actually have time to think again.

Who downvoted this? UI/UX are not terms to be bandied around lightly. Just because you can make websites pretty doesn't mean you're an interface designer. There's a difference between graphic design (an appeal to emotion and aesthetics) and

The design is quite amateurish. The curvature of the header crowds out the (overly-busy) logo and makes me gag. The drop shadow for it cuts off abruptly at the sides, instead of fading into white. The 'S' for Nexus S is flimsy and generic.

It's too bad the site doesn't use high resolution textures for the iPhone 4. The site looks far sharper on my Macbook.

Learn a power tool like Sass, and you'll get your creativity back. I'm a designer who actually prefers coding CSS (via Sass) over Photoshop. PS is incredibly awkward and unwieldy for web design. You don't realize it though, because there so

View source and attempt to recreate websites you like. I suggest copying designs from other media too: there's plenty of untapped potential in print. Keep a scrapbook with bits of design you like looking at. You'll develop a personal style
