What do you mean by corporatism? Do you mean it in Mussolini's sense?

It isn't a foregone conclusion that if you have good skills, you will be permanently hired out of a contract position. If it were a foregone conclusion, they would just hire perm.

I don't block your same-domain ads because my concern about ads is mostly controlling what I am connecting to, and avoiding severe nuisances like sudden popups and stupid flash movies playing loudly out of nowhere.

Prefixing "main=" to a subroutine definition is no different from any language's syntax for declaring subroutines. If that means every programming language is declarative, then declarative doesn't even mean anything.

The problem isn't the argument, the problem is systems that aren't really wanted being rammed through by political means.

Once you're dead you'll miss out on all the cool stuff that's happening. It's bad enough we missed out on all the stuff that happened before we died.

I follow your point about personal mourning, it doesn't have to be earned. But this is tangled up with public recognition of the man's achievements on the level of Einstein, Gandhi and Martin Luther King. So maybe the filmmaker mi

Your perspective on this seems skewed. We have never stopped hearing about how "evil" Microsoft was. Microsoft is a company most people love to hate. There are not any movies painting Bill Gates as an inspired, messianic product v

The complexity of a language is not proportional to the number of builtin types it has. If there is a builtin to do one particular thing, and you just use it for that, that's simple. You don't have to build it up yourself by trick

We have the words "inefficient, regressive, and exploitative" but the missing word is "voluntary." If we are going to treat the lottery as a tax, what products and services should also be treated as taxes levied by comp

By the time you are reaching for recursive make, if you can't just get rid of the complexity with a rethink, it's probably better to use something different.

Do you have more to say here than that you hate Python and its syntax, and you think that C people will never use anything which involves Python? Python was written in C, by C people.

They don't have to ask the coin. They can just assign different meanings to heads and tails, flip the coin, and record the result as a prediction. If you have 1000 people do this, some of them will appear to be miraculous predictors ju

This comment shouldn't have been hit so hard. It's a valid response to people complaining about the throughput/latency tradeoff, especially in special areas like small embedded devices. Go's GC can't just remove all

Python uses try/except, not try/catch. The only reason to catch KeyError is to detect missing keys, so if you are trying to do that, only wrap your dict access rather than wrapping large blocks of code where anything could happen.

Clojure isn't really a fair comparison. Clojure hasn't got low-level interop with all those things, just JVM, and that interop is bought at the cost of closely tying Clojure to JVM. I don't think D can be changed in all the b

Interviews with Pike et al. have always made clear that Go actually was made to compete with Java and C++. I wouldn't argue with that. But the rank and file as represented on HN among other places presents Go as a replacement for Pytho
