What I have yet to see a source is on how many hydro resources we have that can help with this mix, particularly those that can be used as pumped storage. Cold, windless days in winter are the worst case scenario for wind+solar on the grid

I have the same worry when using cruise control. What I've trained myself to do is to cover the accelerator pedal when overtaking other cars or in any situation where I might have to brake. That way the car is still maintaining speed f

The virus is so contagious and so poorly contained in most places that those that do not vaccinate will gain immunity by just contracting the disease instead. Current estimates are of herd immunity by summer with half from vaccination and h

This is a common objection by people that haven't lived with an EV. In reality convenient very slow charging is what you really want. Cars spend 90%+ of their time parked. Connecting them to a common outlet at those times is more than

Are powerful editors really that much of a force multiplier? My career path has pulled me from a CS degree into loosely related fields so I mostly only code as a hobby. I end up using basic editors (e.g., gedit) and reaching for grep/s

Maybe they skipped 7nm and are going straight to 5nm for RDNA2 in CPUs. Zen4 based mobile chips will probably be a very interesting release.

That's the extra hardware I mentioned. I guess I wish the RPi just included one of those chips and had say 4 to 8 pins for ADC. It would make things simpler versus having to find something already well integrated or building it.

I don't really want audio. What I'm looking for is to read 3.3V or 5V analog levels, with really low frequency, once a second or less would be fine.

It would be a potentially smart move by Apple to allow installing other OSs in iOS hardware. The market share grab part of this segment is mostly gone so they probably wouldn't lose much and it would help with their arguments about the

Efficiency is still good for air source heat pumps IIRC. They only go down to 100% at well below freezing which is probably not a problem in Hawaii. Ground source only requires a small hole though, of the kind that is done for water. I'

Heat pumps are at the 400% efficiency level so by your numbers they're already ahead. And PV has other advantages. It's easier to install since it doesn't require specific tubing and the panels are much lighter. The energy is

A better perspective is how much of the energy we already get that we're using. Some quick math tells me that to get 10x our current total energy usage in solar panels would only take 1% of the total surface of the earth, 3.4% of the l
