Possibly, but a pretty obvious retort is that it's necessarily complex; there is nothing else to do all the things that it does. Whereas for BIOS and EFI the argument would be that they should do as little as possible to hand over to t

Maven doesn't specify hard version numbers - the default meaning of "1.0" is >= 1.0, and some packages specify dependencies without a version at all. It's quite possible to get updates of transitive dependencies witho

How do you know that you haven't re-allocated the same memory to something else? You won't get a segfault in that case.

They can ship a downscaled version of the data for older devices. Standard algorithms like Douglas-Peucker are simple to implement and the quality is bound to be good enough (certainly better than the alternative, which here is nothing at a

That graph doesn't show an obvious uptick after the big red "WAR" dot. It's growing fast but seemingly was before just as much. What's it supposed to prove?

Possibly range? At that scale the max representable duration is about 16.5 years (assuming they're 64 bits, IIUC the standard mandates that as a minimum) which could be limiting - although that seems unlikely to be a concern in the fra

Having spent some time working on build tools at my current company, I agree with some of those, and have repeated some others. That's pretty deliberate though, software is designed to meet a set of needs and for ours assumptions like

You can't load a native library from inside the .jar file. Typically things that need them extract them to a temporary location and load them from there - there's no standard interface to `dlopen` or similar that lets you load dir

I figure that "top 1000" is a lot of books, and there've only been 60 or so Hugo awards, so it seems not unlikely it's in there. I'd also rate winning the Hugo as likely to be better than half a chance of being in t

It's a bit idealistic to think people can "just" use fat binaries; sure, Go mostly handles that (not completely; by default most nontrivial Go apps are dynamic, which you can fix but not that easily) but that's not exa

Most Go binaries aren't over 100MB unless they have a bunch of data packed in them. 10-15MB seems more usual to me unless it's a particularly large project.
