It is a silly convention, really. Algol-60 didn't require them, and neither did any language in the Algol family (Pascal, Ada, Modula-2, etc). It used to be something peculiar to Fortran and C, but today every language imitates C...

The logo copyright licensing was fixed years ago. The reason Debian still ships Iceweasel is that they do not have permission to use the Firefox trademarks. IIRC, to get permission, they would either have to use unmodified binaries as shipp

Linus' trace shows that 12% of the runtime is spent in libc's malloc and free. So yeah, there's a problem there.

And indeed, Wine can run 16-bit Windows applications on 64-bit Linux. You could say that at this point Linux is more Windows-compatible than Windows itself :)

Yes, C works if you know how to avoid the gotchas. It'd be nicer if the gotchas weren't there. It's not as if they add value to the language. (C++ OTOH seems to have too many gotchas to learn them all...)

While Oberon is a bit verbose, the C/C++ declaration syntax is a train wreck. Consider the declaration of signal(), which does not have a very complicated type: (*signal(int sigcatch, void (*func)(int sigraised)))(int); I can&
