>Apple effectively gives iOS away (it’s a hardware company, after all), and Amazon gets Android for free While I get what the author's saying here, it's a bit disingenuous to call either of those situations "free". Both companies invest

That's a very...abrupt way to send off your users. If I were a Lightbox user or investor I'd be a bit irked.

Not to mention that, though it's a nice simple technical evaluation based on packet header inspection, it's far from "exhaustive".

I'd be curious how the MPAA would view a 25% increase in sales coupled with a 50% increase in piracy.

The majority who contribute say state "Because I enjoy it, it's a hobby" as their reason. Different people have different hobbies. Just because someone develops for a career doesn't mean that it should automatically be their hobby too.

I'd imagine that Microsoft doesn't really care what the device runs. The money's in the content, not the hardware.

Low-carb diets can be unsustainable depending on individual preferences too. Cutting calories and portion control generally makes it easier to maintain weight when your target weight is met.

Looking through Kindle bestsellers and print bestsellers, they seem to be very similar lists. I'm not sure why you'd expect them to be any different. I agree that the assertion that ereaders are "elitist" is unfounded, but I also think that
