I applaud the author for bringing up this point, however, there is only so many hours in a day. The developers in question are probably not 30 years old anymore. They were cool once too ya know. Instead of bashing them for not coding and dr

>> Downvotes? Really? HN is getting to where you can't have an intellectual opposing view. We are being bullied (down voted) into sameness, borg-ness. Are geeks truly petrified of being in the same room with a different persona

I'm new to web programming but I got the impression that C++ for web work was silly ... use PHP, use Rails, use this, blah, blah, everyone said. Now it seems that Node.js is just C++ style programming in JavaScript, expect that you get

Cool ... this gives me hope for the future I want. The day will come when we will all hold cell phone shaped PCs. You'll be able to interact with them as you do now. However, when placed within 10 feet of a keyboard or mouse, they&#x

I recently bought 7 books. The price difference for a PDF file was sometimes more than a real physical copy. For whatever reason I was not willing to pay even the same amount. So, into my online shopping cart went 7 print copies ... go figu

In my personal experience the most talented developers have been polyglots. Not that someone who knows only two syntaxes is not useful. It must be like musicians ... when you see a person get off the drums and pick up the guitar ... it just

This hurts ... I once had to spend the night in a car (one night) so I know how it hurts emotionally. I pay myself these days, but wonder about businesses that run off of greed. What is happening in Bangladesh could very well come to our co

After 10+ years as a performance leaning C++ desktop app developer I'm looking for any and all tips to make JavaScript (jQuery too) work in perceivably faster ways. I'm use to threading database calls, using message queues, and

I’m still agonizing over what to do ... thanks for sharing your experience. My first thought is that if thousands of Google links to keys and cracks did not exist, our sales would increase. As you've noted, it’s a time sink to fight it

Well, imagine that in a very public place, perhaps at half-time during the Superbowl, an announcement is made on how to get free gas from a local gas station. It destroys sales for that small business. How would you feel as the owner? Would

It's a slippery slope ... filtering known serial key websites and their patterns. In the offline world you can't buy a magazine from Wal-Mart that tells you where to get drugs. Yet, in the online world, there is no effort to stop

Whoever down voted me obviously does not sell software online. I lose about 1,000 potential sales a month from entities linking license keys. I personally "feel" like Google could do "something" about it and spend a litt

I love marketing my own applications. Sadly, it results in more emails, phone calls and other "work" that add stress because the product is not finished. I really need a developer but they want more than I pay myself! Tell me what you think

I have been using laptops since 1997, many different brands, shapes and colors. The one that I had stayed with the longest is ThinkPad. Very simple lines, non-descript raw functionally, the TrackPoint, and up until recently IPS displays. I
