The book The Deep Range by Arthur C. Clarke's deals with some of this. An astronaut that fears space is forced to move to a marine force.

Aren't you just making this happen with tipping? I am from Europe and I always find it confusing to deal with prices in the US. First the prices don't contain the taxes, and then I have to add tipping. The price of a meal shows up

Dreadful. I wonder how this could be avoided. A single individual from a developed country could help pay for some as basic as discardable syringes for a whole town.

I'm in my early 40s and I remember when it was aired, but younger people were probably watching kids TV at the time. There were some other similar stories that made it to the TV, like Dona Branca, Capitão Roby or Ballet Rose.

At least in Europe going to/from the UK is a lot more cumbersome than to another EU country, since they are not in the Schengen area. It is far easier to fly to Switzerland than to the UK.

I was reading the book and enjoying it until I got to this part. It was so wrong in so many ways that I put the book down, not able to trust anything else in it.

I am from Portugal, a country that has many people working in richer EU countries, but I don't think this is true. Romanian or Portuguese nurses and doctors working in France or Germany or any other country will have the same wages as

Nice work, I can see myself using this. I have some ideas in this field and while I don't execute on them this looks like a good option. :D Congratulations!

I had a multiple VWs, including an 2001 Bora TDI (the EU name of the Jetta) and they were very reliable. Still, some cars are born a lemon.

I relate to that. As a Portuguese, I had both English and French in school. As a teen nerd learning Basic on the ZX Spectrum, English was much useful than weird french. I now regret not paying much attention to those classes.

Not true. While Lisbon has a big chunk of the jobs, other cities also have plenty of opportunities. YMMV of course. I work remotely, so I’m outside the local job market, but I still get plenty of offers for local companies in my mid sized c
