I started dreaming in English while I was still learning the language. Same when thinking about a hard problem. It's in your mind even, or especially, when you're asleep.

Does IE10 respect the system's ClearType settings or still forcing its own way?

I got used to the new gmail thread display, although I agree that the old way was more suggestive, but the missing + in Chrome still bugs me.

That was the first thing I noticed. It's constantly bugging me when looking at it. Makes it feel half 3D and half 2D, like one of those impossible stairs.

Foreign sites are outside of the "current US law". The only way you can influence them would be to either "convince" the foreign nation to follow the US law, unlikely for most countries, or somehow block the site and hence the great US fire

Don't worry, they drill more geography in you before high school than they do here throughout high school. Teaching foreign languages starts from kindergarten. By high school if you're inclined and had good teachers you should know enough t

I have a similar experience, but while I can get used to the blurriness, and after a while I don't notice it as much, going back is always a breath of fresh air. I imagine it like putting your glassses on - if I had to wear any - everything

I'd be very surprised if they don't teach English in elementary. In Eastern Europe they start teaching English from kindergarten.

It's not the white space that makes the delineation, is the alignment of the items around that white space. If I plot a bunch of blocks of text on a white canvas you couldn't make columns or rows out of that mess. You'd have plenty of white

Yes, convey separation, but after a certain number of pixels white space is not as effective anymore. Notice how in the example of the table he argues that for wider tables using white space is not effective, and that delineation using col

Delineation and white space are two related but different concepts. One is talking about some way of separating different parts of an interface, through lines or contrast (i.e. different colors). The other is talking about avoiding clutter,

While I understand where you're coming from, I feel his criticism is well founded. There is noticeably less contrast and delineation. It also does take more to discover the interface - you have to actually hover over buttons. While you coul

I'm talking about places where maybe 10 people really need email and 100 other maybe once a week if that. You can definitely justify the cost for those 10 people, but not for the other 100. If you could mix and match free and non-free accou

Exactly, you're either small and use the free version or you're very big and $50/a/y is no big deal. There's nothing in-between. I know quite a few companies who would gladly pay something, even if the free version works for them.

Seems to me like Google has only two dials: free or expensive. For example, in the case of Google Apps, the jump from free to $50 per account / year is rather steep imo. $4 fee for each 1K over seems rather expensive. Anybody know the price

If you're not worrying you either don't care or you're fooling yourself. If it takes 30 min to fix a potential problem in production, I'd rather upset 10 people in the middle of the night than 1000 people during working hours.

Here's a trivial example: Let's say you have a class that writes a string to the database. You abstract out the actual writing to the database of this string thinking it's always going to work, it's just dumping data after all. Your test pa
