Sometimes when things are too much in proportion we're left admiring the structure and not bother with the content. If something triggers our OCD, the padding in this case, it forces our attention to that spot. It's similar to how we're dra

I would take the approach of broadcasting the vote to several monitors. When you place a vote you get a confirmation number. That vote is then uploaded to N third parties that later verify that they all got the same votes. Then the voter co

I would recommend BLToolkit (and the newer lighter version Linq2Db -- not to be confused with Linq to SQL). You keep an abstraction level above raw SQL via LINQ and with multiple DB providers you can easily switch between databases without

It has been, and it still is, thankfully to a somewhat lesser degree. Even Stallman said "we should discourage people from writing programs in C#". This, of course, is just the tip of the iceberg. Whether .NET is different from Mono is not

Then how do you explain that with mono? It's open source, but since it used MS's specs, with OS license, it has been vilified by the open source community. The reality of the matter is that while developers like to think they're rational, t

No, it wouldn't. Let's be honest, people would say it's from Microsoft and not use it for that very reason. Could be better than JVM and still most wouldn't use it. Linus was right, the hatred of Microsoft is a disease, and a lot of people

We need to separate LINQ, the C# language feature, from the library implementation, LINQ to SQL or Entity Framework. The later does tend to cause issue because it offers a rather leaky abstraction over your database and poor performance. Bu

"Honestly, I've grown to like it." One thing I've learned while designing UIs is that if it takes a techy X amount of time to figure something out, it takes between X * 10 to X * 100 for a regular person, so you really want to aim for a sup

The fact that Dell doesn't offer Linux as an option means there's no market for it. Come WRT and iOS you won't even have the option to easily install a different OS.

Options don't come for free though. Every option in the chain doubles the number of configurations that the manufacturer has to maintain. So, yes, better for consumer, but not better / easier for OEMs.
