And it's not just at stations. Four high school students committed suicide at the same crossing in Palo Alto in 2009, so a security guard was hired to patrol it [1]. There is still a guard there today. [1] http://www.mercu

For this to be truly useful, there needs to be a way for traces to cross (usually accomplished with multiple layers plus vias). It seems it would be possible to add a second, insulating ink to print between traces at crossing points.

Agreed. Microsoft ought to release a version of the type cover with a pointing stick (aka Trackpoint).

Have you looked into using Loop-Blinn[1] for drawing Beziers? I'd love to be able to use the GPU for vector graphics and Loop-Blinn seems to solve the problem of drawing curves, but I'm still looking for a way to get coverage-bas

Almost all physics papers (not just particle physics papers) are posted on arXiv. Papers on arXiv are usually updated to the final published version, although the peer review process rarely produces significant changes. It is unfortunate t

The channel capacity depends on the amount of noise present, not just the bandwidth. Specifically for a AWGN channel, bits per second <= W*log_2(1+SNR), where W is the bandwidth in Hz and SNR is the signal-to-noise ratio. For example,

Unfortunately, we are not yet at the point where a range of frequencies anywhere near as wide as discussed in the article can be supported by a simple firmware upgrade. RF receivers typically include a very narrow bandpass filter as the fi

The stated application, molecular modeling, often requires double-precision floating point, for which GPUs offer less of an advantage than for single-precision and integer operations.

Unless this work differs completely from Nocera's previous work, the device relies on a conventional solar cell (with sub 20% efficiency if made from silicon as suggested in the press release) to provide current for electrolysis of water.
