Hmm I see your point, but I disagree. I think creating a Twitter developer account and getting an API key is MUCH harder than signing up for mastodon. For example, I have a colleague who has been a big twitter user. They’re a passive listen

Just make sick days nationally mandatory. Set a baseline of human decency. You want to run a super-optimized rail schedule? Go for it - but humane working conditions are a constraint you MUST satisfy.

I agree that a pool of equal peers is tough these days. I think the Fediverse has a pretty good approach, where most end users are on mobile but you can spin up a server whenever. There’s still a big complexity/skill/cost jump fro

I’m not an AGI fanboy. I agree that the current line of inquiry (ie deep learning) won’t get us there. I think neurosymbolic reasoning is needed. That work is still nascent, and worse, we don’t have great ways to connect our current paradig

Yeah this is probably a needed feature. There are some good philosophical objections to post imports, but they’re overwhelmed by practical arguments for it. it’s a solvable problem.

I wound up creating two. One is on hachyderm.io, which is a medium-large instance with lots of k8s nerds. The other is self hosted. I’m leaning towards just keeping the hachyderm account. Self hosting on digital ocean is a bit more than $50

You live in an apartment? Who else lives on your building? In a decent sized building I bet you’re not the only lonely person. Find the other ones, and create some social thing that’s easy to say yes to. Dinner is straightforward. Other exc

Shot is new to me, thanks for sharing. Looks like a nice iteration on CommonMark. I’ve preferred Asciidoc for its availability to handle complex nested headers and internal links; djot’s custom attributes and local-first link parsing might

Personally, I think the Fediverse and IndieWeb are in a much stronger position. Key thing to watch: does Mastodon manage to ride the wave created by the Twitter collapse and become a socially relevant force? Even in some small communities?

I agree. Every time I think about picking a markup language, I wind up wanting to use Asciidoc but then getting frustrated by the tooling. Maybe there's a great static site generator written in GO with strong Asciidoc support?? Antora
