And this is fine! This is the whole point of living in a civilization. Master your craft, get useful, trade with people who know other useful things, everyone is better off. You could just as easily point out that subsistence farmers exist.

I once had a customer threaten to reject a delivery over a CVE. I dug into it. The CVE was that an Ocaml PostgreSQL client didn’t implement an authentication feature. I convinced the customer to accept the delivery by pointing out that (1)

Pretty extreme solution… you can get Claude models from AWS Bedrock and Google Model Zoo. These are both very helpful for compliance and security, but do require you to have a cloud strategy.

Yes. Fine tuning is an optimization. Like all optimizations, it’s downstream of figuring out your problem, implementing a naive solution, scaling the naive solution, and getting frustrated by SWAP-C. THEN you start poking at what optimizati

Cool idea. Hard problem. To do this properly you need access to all communications of all family members. iMessage and email would be needed for my family to really take advantage of this. That level of access would demand more trust than I

How do you get the flashing LED synced up to the spinning pinholes? Maybe the motor provides some positioning feedback so you just have to line it up once…

This prompted me to revisit my own decision to avoid Codeberg by re-reading their Terms of Use[1]. A few things stand out: - They explicitly require all hosted software to have a FLOSS license - Private repos are only allowed in su

Nice use of regression analysis to understand your experimental dataset > But again, some combinations might be just harder to draw than others. > To account for that, I fit a fixed-effects regression on all 1,008 images: score ~ lab

Great article… been worrying about this one quite a bit: > If these tools demand expertise, yet the tools can actively circumvent the friction that cultivates expertise, then what is the path for one to become an expert so they can effec

How does "standard Bolt" relate to OpenCypher? Does Bolt support imply OpenCypher support?

Feels like a reaction to the Fivetran/DBT merger. That was announced October 2025 but operationally is just getting some steam. Airbyte is probably also part of the story.

What are best practices for using Excel as a front end for python tooling? I’ve got a use case where the business users are maintaining a complex spreadsheet and we need to hook some genuine optimization into it. It’s all fine and good if y

I don’t see why HP would want to do that. They have huge margins on ink, right? I’m sure the increase in cartridge sales would offset lost subscription revenue from useless cloud services, if only because the people who are gonna use an ope

Interesting, I was wondering why Snowflake was investing in PostgreSQL. Looks like Snowflake bought Crunchy Data and Databricks bought NEON… so the two leading DWaaS companies have managed PostgreSQL offerings now.

I am currently fighting my way off SQL Server towards PostgreSQL. Windows Server is a real pain to operate and the SQL Server ecosystem expects you to run a lot of add-ons on the server alongside your database. Those don’t translate to mana

It's weird how hard it is to get programmatic access to a mobile-first messaging service. Telegram is the only one that makes it easy. WhatsApp and iMessage have first party solutions that assume you're a business with 1:M comms.

Interesting, Project Sunrise aims to run non-stop flights between Sydney and London + New York. They needed to design a new airplane to do it. Targeting service starting late 2027.
