It’s not quite that bad. ACHes are batched several times per day and usually complete same day. It’ll be several years before consumers are splitting checks on fednow, an infinitesimally small use case.

Visa & Mastercard do not keep any of the interchange fee. It all goes to the issuer of the card. Visa & MC charge "scheme fees" which are much lower (except for cross-border txns). Interchange is public information: https

Chip payments remain awful. Mag stripe worked much, much better. Much cheaper "terminals". Could use in many more places. The awfulness of chip payments makes Apple Pay possible.
