I moved from Australia (with ~50% top marginal tax rate) to the US (where everything's all about "low" taxes and getting nothing for them except funding dumb wars) and my take home pay was higher in Australia. Let's not

Taxes are the least of your problems in SF. It's not even a consideration and probably the wrong optimization to make when deciding where to live. There's a reason most US billionaires live in CA or NY.

Those people always exist, but they cost a lot more than level 1 people. It's just impossible to scale that level of support to 100% of the customer base without escalation etc.

You can only ever sue a law/accounting firm for the total cost of services rendered to you in that year or whatever. Depends on the client agreement. Even then it's always a grey area where it's advice that may or may not be

It's not true, though. SF is pretty much average in this regard. Americans in general just don't seem to care about public spaces, pretty much anywhere in the country. I've travelled to many US cities and the only reason othe

These things are always just PR exercises. Someone always pays in the end. The question that should be asked is: Why would Sharp want to build TVs (which are sold at between a very small profit to a loss already while being built in China

CloudFront is one of the worst CDNs out there, so this isn't really a good point. Any CDN can be stood up in front of a small fleet of dedicated hosts, and you'd still be saving 80%.

Until the US switches to a parliamentary system, any third party is just a spoiler. See Jill Stein and the Greens. The Democratic party is centrist. But it's a huge tent that covers a lot of people and a lot of interests. I honestly

Just in case you can forward this on... AWS EC2 eu-west-2 (London) to GCP Network Loader Balancer is about 12ms round trip for some reason. Most other anycast services located in London are 0.5-2ms round trip. Just something I noticed recen

Anyone can buy ads for your app though. The two systems (iTunes Connect) and iAds aren't linked like that.

Google has this option in the Google iOS app (and presumably the Android one). Interactive Brokers have had something like this for a couple of years.

Stripe is better than Braintree in every single way. There's no contest. Braintree gets competitive when you've got more "custom" needs and large transaction volumes.

There really isn't one. But normal people (i.e. non techies) use these things for small "factoid" type situations. Weather, sports scores, stuff like that. It takes longer to ask a thing what the weather is than looking at my

Siri has an "API". A very limited set of things it can do. It's basically a hard coded list of events that get triggered if someone says a particular phrase. Spotify's use case isn't supported.

How does NLP have anything to do with microphones? Siri's problem isn't speech to text -- try the dictation button on the iOS keyboard sometime. It's perfect. Siri's problem is that it's very limited.

The problem, for me, is that Siri is just really dumb in comparison to Alexa and Google Assistant. And those aren't that smart yet either.

Do queries to github.net stay internal or do you also sync github.net zones to Route53/Dynect ... just in case? We have a similar setup with unbound and nsd (no need for powerdns for us). Even then it took a while to get it right becau

Yeah these design documents always look nicer than the actual implementation. In practice Windows 10 looks... lifeless.
