I consider this a best practice. I always key my localstorage values to the user account and build version so you don't get issues with old localstorage schemas causing bugs when a new build is released.

Chrome has the FileSystem API, but they couldn't get the other vendors on board and it's basically dead now. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23560090/is-the-fileapi-...

I suggest dropping some of your concerns around social media to see if it picks up steam. If it gets the attention of enough people, they'll have to take it more seriously. The way you've described it irks me a little bit.

That's fine, but as GP said, the browser geolocation API asks for location data from the device, and this is what it gives you back. Every app and website that has a "use my location" button will provide your latitude and lon

I'm having a harder time coming up with a language that doesn't have native Windows support. All of the language runtimes I've worked with (node, ruby, python, java, c#, php) have had native Windows binaries.

I think the problem is that there's no way to tell if it's just an unintended correlation or if the test was chosen intentionally because it favors the racial majority. In that case, the only way to prevent the latter is to ban al

When you capture this data you can replay a user's session as if you were looking over their shoulder. Logrocket is a good example of this kind of platform. You can configure it to blacklist certain elements, but it is undoubtedly cree

Not that I condone it, but FWIW this is a common form of analytics called session recording. I use it on back office apps for troubleshooting, but I would be horrified if someone asked me to add it to a consumer facing app that people use i

I think there is a misunderstanding here; I believe that OP is referring to "infinite scrolling" where the list items are fetched from the server n items at a time as you scroll and wishing for a toolkit that keeps the data in mem

Oh I see, yeah that's pretty much the default way to render large lists in a SPA (the term of art is called windowing). React-window is really well designed[0]. It is a shame that there is no native HTML element for this though. [0] h

I have the same scrolling issues on large, complex Excel spreadsheets. Every environment is going to hit a wall at some point when the UI is forced to display a certain amount of data.

The Hummer was also based on a US military vehicle from the gulf war, which gives it a lot of cachet with people who want a powerful (or want to project an image of power) vehicle. I don't doubt a lot of people will buy one of these th

Go back and look at the lines and proportions of the countach[0] and look again at the cybertruck. It reminds me of a lambo in the same way that the phantom menace reminds me of a new hope. [0] https://rmsothebys-cache.azureedge.

You could treat a link to the post as a proxy for an upvote, and then rank posts based on how many other posts link to them. Of course you wouldn't be able to charge for this service so you'd have to sell ad space on the front pag

Except for the shanty towns. Seattle is the only US city I've been to that has literal shanties built on every flat spot available next to the highway. Take a taxi from the airport to downtown some time to see for yourself.
