It's generally considered a best practice to use pure selector functions in your UI components so the only place in your application that references the actual data structure is the root selector that pulls data out of the state tree.

The problem that you end up with past a certain scale in a component-based app without a state management framework (third party or your own) is that you're performing business logic inside view components. By moving your business logi

The difference is imperative vs reactive UI. The impact of this is hard to overstate.

I can't edit the original comment because it triggered the flame war filters, but I'm curious why this is such a controversial question and garnered so many downvotes. I sincerely wanted to know what popular the consensus is.

Is "the jews" considered offensive? If someone were to say "the blacks" I would automatically suspect them of racist tendencies.

Have you considered going hourly with a staffing agency? A senior developer can charge a three figure hourly rate and if you aren't known in the industry an agency can place you at companies that can afford to keep you working full tim

This is why I don't pay much attention to small discounts, especially when it requires handing over your PII. Also, a half day's work for a custom keycap set is a no-brainer. :)

In my experience developers are going straight from junior to senior and "lead" is the new senior.

I'm not sure about that. I moved to Austin three years ago and I have doubled my salary twice since I got here.

China's population consists of more than one race. I'm all for political correctness but we need to distinguish between racial stereotyping and criticisms of a nation state.

Just the other day I had a coworker freak out when he saw me do this. It baffles me how a professional developer could use git for years and never read the manual.

The next dev that comes along and naively imports your module into another part of the app will waste their time trying to figure out why foo keeps getting overwritten by the second instance.

I had several copies of my digital archive going back to 1996, including all of the art and music I made as a kid, as well as the first programs I wrote. A few weeks ago I reformatted one of my backup drives so I could use it with my roku T

E2E testing using a headless browser controlled by a framework like puppeteer. Scaling up with many different OS/browser combinations gets difficult and expensive fast though, which is why services like browserstack exist. Testing CSS

Actually the reason I was willing to take a chance on Immer is because it's included in redux starter kit. :) Using immer in production has been about 1000x better than writing immutable state updates by hand. It literally reduced (hah

I just converted one of our medium sized redux apps to immer and it has been a resounding success. I highly recommend it and will be using it everywhere in the future.

There are many vscode plugins that will evaluate code and display the results inline (the build in debugger does this too if you pause execution). You can find them pretty easily in the visual studio marketplace.

This was a plot in one of the Culture novels by Iain Banks. Two civilizations decide to settle a dispute by fighting simulated wars in VR. Very interesting story.
